It's been a long time coming, but Young Justice is finally coming back. It was announced late last year that the series was getting a new season, but we still don't know when the episodes will debut or what network they will be airing on. Today, it looks like voice work has officially started on Young Justice Season 3, thanks to a tweet from cast member Khary Payton.

The actor, who many Walking Dead fans may know as King Ezekiel, recently took to his Twitter account to give DC fans some assurance that Young Justice season 3 is indeed happening. His update featured a picture of his character Aqualad and a caption that seems to imply that voice work has started on the long-awaited third season of the beloved animated series. Here is what Khary Payton had to say about it.

"& we start once more for the fallen... #YoungJustice #season3"

Young Justice ran for only two seasons from 2011 to 2013, but sadly it was canceled, partially because the toys weren't selling that well, which was significant since Mattel had agreed to help fund the series based on a toy deal. But fan demand couldn't keep the series away forever, so Warner Bros. animation and DC announced that the show will be returning, though, it won't be airing on Cartoon Network this time around. Here is what Sam Register, President of Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Digital Series, had this to say in a statement about bringing back the series for a third season last November.

"The affection that fans have had for 'Young Justice,' and their rallying cry for more episodes, has always resonated with us. We are excited to bring the show back for this loyal fanbase and to provide an opportunity for new viewers to discover this excellent series."

It hasn't officially been announced yet, but it is expected that Khary Payton won't be the only one of the original cast members returning to the cast. In the case of Aqualad, he was a character that was created specifically for Young Justice, but Geoff Johns later wrote him into the world of DC Comics and he has since become a fairly regular hero in that world. He even recently appeared in Teen Titans #6 and is seemingly readying to join the team. So get ready for a lot more Aqualad both in the world of TV and in the comics, DC fans.

In case you aren't familiar with the show, Young Justice takes place outside of the main DC continuity and centers on the teenage Super Heroes of the DC Universe coming of age in a world learning how to manage their super powers and deal with supervillains and super secrets. The team of youngsters is used as a secret covert weapon of the Justice League and features Nightwing, Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian and others who are striving to prove to their legendary mentors, as well as to themselves, that they have what it takes to be heroes. We will be sure to keep you up to date as more information on Young Justice season 3, such as a premiere date and network, becomes available.
