Fans of the animated DC Universe have reason to celebrate, because Warner Bros. Animation is officially working on Young Justice season 3. Fans have long been clamoring for a third season of the very well liked and highly regarded series and the studio finally listened. A premiere date has yet to be announced, but new episodes of the show are coming and that is the important thing.

The welcomed news came courtesy of the DC Comics blog and they also mentioned that a network partner will be announced for Young Justice season 3 soon. That seems to imply that the show will not be airing on Cartoon Network, as the first two seasons did. Sam Register, President of Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Digital Series, had this to say in a statement about bringing back the series for a third season.

"The affection that fans have had for 'Young Justice,' and their rallying cry for more episodes, has always resonated with us. We are excited to bring the show back for this loyal fanbase and to provide an opportunity for new viewers to discover this excellent series."

DC also confirmed that producers Brandon Vietti and Greg Weisman will be returning for Young Justice season 3. The show was beloved by fans, but Mattel had been partially funding the show based on a toy deal. The toys weren't selling, so Mattel pulled out and Cartoon Network couldn't find a way to replace the money lost on the deal. So, Young Justice was cancelled. There was renewed hope for a season 3 when the second season of Young Justice landed on Netflix earlier this year and generated renewed interest. Many fans have even started social media campaigns to get season 3 made. It apparently worked.

Given Netflix's history of saving shows that people love, it is possible they will be the "network partner" DC mentioned in the blog post. It also wasn't confirmed in the initial announcement which, if any of the voice actors from the first two seasons will be coming back, but it seems like Warner Bros. would be able to bring the core players back. Warner Bros. did release a teaser poster for Young Justice season 3, which is pretty simple but surely enough to get any fan of the show excited for the now inevitable return.

Young Justice takes place outside of the main DC continuity and centers on the teenage Super Heroes of the DC Universe coming of age in a world learning how to manage their super powers and deal with supervillains and super secrets. The team of youngsters is used as a secret covert weapon of the Justice League and features Nightwing, Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian and others who are striving to prove to their legendary mentors, as well as to themselves, that they have what it takes to be heroes.
