Robin Lord Taylor of Gotham will be starring in a recurring role in the Netflix original series You for its second season. For almost five full seasons now, Taylor has expertly played the role of Oswald "Penguin" Cobblepot on Fox's Batman prequel series. His take on the supervillain is very different than other versions played by actors like Burgess Meredith and Danny DeVito, and that's why Penguin has been one of the show's most interesting characters from the very start. With the show soon coming to a close, the actor's schedule has cleared up quite a bit, and he is clearly staying busy by so quickly getting himself attached to a new show.

You season 2 will premiere directly on Netflix, unlike the first season which first aired on Lifetime. Season 1 focused on a bookstore manager named Joe (Penn Badgley), who becomes obsessed with one of his customers (Elizabeth Lail). Without revealing here how the season ends, Joe stalks the woman with the help of the internet. Season 2 will follow Joe to Los Angeles where he meets a new lady to obsess over (Victoria Pedretti). As Joe's new love interest isn't as heavily reliant on social media as his previous target, he may need to employ new methods of achieving his nefarious goals. Taylor will be playing Will, a character described as a "thoughtful, personable, and highly intelligent guy who marches to the beat of his own drummer."

Before Fox renewed Gotham for a fifth season, there were rumors the show would conclude with season 4. Giving the series a shortened final season allows those involved to properly conclude the many storylines of the show. Robin Lord Taylor has said that a time jump will be used before the series comes to an end, with the actor wearing a fat suit to more closely resemble the comic book version of the Penguin. As with Meredith and DeVito, Taylor's depiction of the character is going to be remembered for years to come, due to the actor's unforgettable performance.

Taylor's breakout role is certainly Oswald Cobblepot, but the actor is branching out with other movie and TV roles following the end of Gotham. He can be seen in upcoming movies like The Long Home with James Franco and John Wick 3 with Keanu Reeves. Before becoming known as the Penguin, Taylor had a notable role on the popular AMC series The Walking Dead as well. His character, Sam, was shown in season 4 offering fruit to Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride). Unfortunately, Sam was later killed off in the season 5 premiere by the cannibals living in Terminus.

There's no word on when production will begin on season 2 of You, or when we can expect to see the new episodes hitting Netflix. We expect new updates on the show's sophomore season to become available over the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can catch Taylor in the final episodes of Gotham when the show airs Thursday nights on Fox. This information comes to us from Deadline.
