As a guy that grew up in the 90s I have a deep love (and crush) on Natural Born Killers and From Dusk Till Dawn actress Juliette Lewis and Black Snake Moan and The Addams Family actress Christina Ricci. Just like you do. And so you can imagine that I'm excited to pass along word that the two stars will be joining forces for Jennifer's Body and The Invitation director Karyn Kusama and Showtime's upcoming cannibal survival pilot Yellowjackets.

Created by Narcos: Mexico and The Originals writers Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, this new survival series will tell the tale of a group of female high school soccer players who go all Alive and the Donner Party on each other after surviving a plane crash deep in the wild woods of Canada. Watch out for them mooses, eh. All jokes aside, the series sounds super brutal as the girls will - as hinted at above - eventually descend into cannibalistic, warring factions. More interesting though is the fact that the show will also tell the story of how the eventual survivors handle life 25 years later.

Now while I dig this IT: Chapter Two and Now and Then approach to the storytelling, am I alone in thinking that maybe, just maybe, it will take away from some (most) of the suspense presented in the younger sections? After all, we will all know good and well who ends up surviving by the time the rescue helicopters (or, you know, rescue moose) descend. Maybe. Maybe not. I'm sure the show has a few aces up their sleeve such as one girl not really being who she says she is later in life or something like that. I guess we'll just have to sit and twiddle our thumbs, waiting until we can find out for sure sometime in the future.

Juliette Lewis and Christina Ricci will be joining Castle Rock and Two and a Half Men} star Melanie Lynskey in the series along with The Blacklist: Redemption and House of Cards actress Tawny Cypress and For The People and The Leftovers actress Jasmin Savoy Brown. Ella Purnell, Sammi Hanratty, Sophie Thatcher, Sophie Nélisse, Steven Krueger and Amy Okuda have also been cast as series regulars. Destroyer director Karyn Kusama will also serve as an executive producer on Yellowjackets along with Drew Comins and Lyle and Nickerson who serve as the series' showrunners as well.

Again, I'm willing to wait however long it takes for this series to finally hit Showtime as Lewis and Ricci are two of my favorite actresses from childhood. Add in one of my favorite up-and-coming semi-scream queens Melanie Lynsky and I think I'm going to have to add Showtime and director Karyn Kusama's Yellowjackets to my must-see list tonight. There is no word on whether or not this series will move onto a full order after the pilot is produced but we will make sure to keep on top of this show as it develops and pass along any further info as we hear it. In the meantime, this casting update comes to us from The Hollywood Reporter.
