Mulder and Scully are coming back yet again. After a very successful revival season, The X-Files is coming back for another full season on Fox. Now, it has been confirmed that the series will debut in early 2018, though, no specific premiere date has been revealed. But we do have the first photos from The X-Files Season 11, as well as the very first plot details, courtesy of showrunner and creator Chris Carter.

As one might expect, X-Files creator Chris Carter is playing things pretty close to the chest for The X-Files Season 11, but he did give us some very interesting stuff to chew on while speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming season. One of the images released reveals that Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) is laying in a hospital bed with Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) sitting by her side looking exhausted and distressed. What events transpired to land Scully in such a situation? Carter won't tell us just yet, but he ensures, there's a reason for it.

"Obviously something unexpected has happened. Everything is by design."

The other new photos that EW revealed is classic X-Files. A poorly lit room filled with human silhouettes, except for one figure that doesn't look to be human. If it is human, something definitely isn't right. Odds are, this is going to be one of the monsters-of-the-week, which is going to be more of what we're going to see in The X-Files season 11. As opposed to a heavily serialized season, there are going to be 10 episodes in total, 8 of which are going to stand on their own. As EW puts it, the season will be "united in theme but varied in tone."

Chris Carters teases that Scully and Mulder may be patching things up this season, as he says those hoping to see the couple reunite have "have something to look forward to." Their estranged son, William, will also come back into the fold this season. "William has been an absent center. He will come to the fore," Carter says. But there's plenty more to look forward to this season, outside of Scully and Mulder's relationship.

Episode 1 of The X-Files season 11 will give us more on the Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis), who apparently has some family ties to Mulder. Episode 2 will feature a time jump that will distance viewers from the events of the premiere, but it is also said to put some distance between Scully and Mulder. Episode 3 of The X-Files new season is described as "a darkly comedic hour" that was written by Chris Carter. The episode, which sounds like a blast, focuses on "doubles and doppelgängers." This season will also explore bigger things, like the Scully's abduction and the chip that was implanted in her neck.

Finally, there's going to be a "powerful" figure coming on board this season, played by Barbara Hershey, in addition to a mysterious figure, known simply as Mr. Y. And don't worry, The X-Files season 11 will address Agent Reyes (Annabeth Gish) confessing that she's in league with the Cigarette Smoking Man.
