Back in September, AMC announced that they are developing a spin-off series for The Walking Dead, which takes place in a different location with new characters. Today, an unconfirmed report reveals that the show may actually be a prequel, set during the early days of the zombie outbreak, and the efforts to contain the undead epidemic.

Robert Kirkman revealed in a recent interview that the show definitely won't take place in Georgia, and that it has to stand on its own.

"It definitely won't be set in Georgia. It's important to us that this show exists on its own. The spin-off has to be a show worthy of existing, or else we've all sold out."

Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert are executive producing the untitled spin-off, which AMC plans to debut sometime in 2015. While none of these story details have been confirmed by AMC, insiders claim that the show is still in very early stages of development, so even if this report is accurate, the story may change between now and 2015.

The Walking Dead was renewed for Season 5.
