It looks like we're getting some more What We Do in the Shadows. Director Taika Waititi is currently finishing up the promotional tour for Thor: Ragnarok, which arrives in theaters on November 3. No doubt, he's been lining up projects as a result. He was a respected director previously, but Thor: Ragnarok is going to help give him a boost in Hollywood for sure. It looks like one of his next projects is going to be adapting his beloved vampire comedy for the small screen.

Yes, according to Taika Waititi, a What We Do in the Shadows TV series is in development. While he can't reveal a lot about the project currently and we don't know quite how far along it is, Waititi did confirm that they are working to develop a version of the vampire comedy for TV that will take place in the U.S. The original was set in New Zealand, but it looks like they may be going for a slightly broader audience with this one. Here's what Waititi had to say about it in a recent interview.

"We're trying to develop a U.S. version of What We Do in the Shadows. You know, set here in the states, but a TV show."

In case you aren't familiar, What We Do in the Shadows came out in 2015 and is easily one of better vampire movies, comedy or otherwise, to come around in a long time. The movie centers on Vampire housemates, played by Jemaine Clement, Taika Waititi and Jonathan Brugh, who try to cope with the complexities of modern life as vampires. They do their best to show a newly turned hipster, played Cori Gonzalez-Macuer, some of the perks of being undead.

What We Do in the Shadows barely made a dent at the box office ($6 million), but it was made on the cheap and has become something of a cult movie already. It also did incredibly well with critics, currently sitting at a very impressive 96 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. If you've seen the movie, the concept actually lends itself quite well to a TV series. There's a lot of comedy to exploit and it could absolutely work as a half-hour comedy on HBO, or perhaps a streaming service like Netflix or Amazon.

Taika Waititi has his plate pretty full at the moment. Beyond finishing his Thor: Ragnarok commitments, he's got some other projects lined up. He's supposed to direct a movie about Michael Jackson's chimp, Bubbles, and he's in talks to direct the live-action Akira movie. So this What We Do in the Shadows series may have to take a backseat if both of those projects move forward. Still, this interview with Fandango reveals that some more awesome vampire comedy could be coming our way in the future.
