What We Do in the Shadows season 3 is going to have to go on without Jemaine Clement in the writing room. The series is based on the movie of the same name which Clement and Taika Waititi created. Clement will remain on board as an executive producer and director on the hit vampire series. The actor/director may even show up in another few episodes. There are spoilers for What We Do in the Shadows season 2 below, so read ahead at your own risk.

Last night saw What We Do in the Shadows season 2 come to a close. Except there really wasn't any closure since it ends on a cliffhanger. In a new interview, Jemaine Clement was asked what was going to come next. Specifically, he was asked about Guillermo's (Harvey Guillen) arc. He had this to say.

"The writers will have to figure that one out because I won't be in the writers' room next season. I'm leaving them with this big problem to work out. I think it's a good idea to end on a big cliffhanger, we did the same thing last season. Now they can figure out how to get out of this big mess."

There we have it. Jemaine Clement won't be in on the writing process for What We Do in the Shadows season 3. While this sounds like some bad news, it also sounds like Clement has faith in his writing staff to craft the show on their own. Plus, there's always room for him to return, even in front of the camera. You can read what Clement had to say about another possible cameo in season 3 after last night's unplanned surprise.

"You can't expect that! I wasn't even going to do this until the day before, because we had trouble getting anyone in time. We were hoping we'd get someone who has played a vampire before, like in 'The Trial' last season with the vampire council, but we didn't have enough time. So I happened to be in Toronto, where we shoot the show, so I put my wig on again, but it wasn't planned."

What We Do in the Shadows season 2 built off the success of the first season and now more people than ever are tuning in each week. Season 3 could be the biggest yet, thanks to the ever-expanding fandom. Mark Hamill guest starred this season and has already said that he would be more than willing to return, which has been echoed by other actors who have come on for cameos.

What We Do in the Shadows season 2 included some pretty big surprises, so it will be interesting to see where the writers decide to take the show in the future. Whatever the case may be, it's understood that it will continue to be hilarious, which is a good guarantee to have.
