Warrior Nun is getting renewed for season 2 on Netflix as revealed in a new video of the showrunner and cast posted online. Debuting on the streaming service in July, the new show has turned out to be one of this summer's surprise hits, growing increasingly popular among subscribers of the streaming service. Apparently, Netflix has noticed the warm reception the new show has gotten from its viewers, as the streamer has confirmed that Warrior Nun has officially been renewed for a second season.

"Just in case you needed a lil sunbeam of positivity in your day: watch the Warrior Nun cast get the news that they've been renewed for a second season," reads a tweet posted to Netflix's NX Twitter account. The tweet also includes an accompanying video of showrunner Simon Barry speaking with several cast members through a video conference call, informing them all simultaneously that the series was officially renewed for season 2. As you can expect, the cast all appeared to be very excited about the news.

If you're not yet watching the series, it's certainly worth tuning in as more and more fans are continuing to do as word of mouth increases its awareness. Directly based on the Manga of the same name, Warrior Nun "revolves around a 19 year-old woman who wakes up in a morgue with a new lease on life and a divine artifact embedded in her back. She discovers she is now part of an ancient order that has been tasked with fighting demons on Earth, and powerful forces representing both heaven and hell want to find and control her."

The cast of Warrior Nun features Alba Baptista as Ava Silva, Toya Turner as Shotgun Mary, Thekla Reuten as Jillian Salvius, Lorena Andrea as Sister Lilith, Kristina Tonteri-Young as Sister Beatrice, Olivia Delcán as Sister Camila, and Tristan Ulloa as Father Vincent. In addition to starring in the lead role, Baptista also serves as the narrator for the series. The video of the cast learning about the show's renewal features appearances from Baptista, Turner, Andrea, Tonteri-Young, and Delcán along with showrunner Simon Barry.

News of Warrior Nun getting a renewal might be extra sweet to the cast, as Netflix has been conversely giving the boot to many of its other original shows. Just this week, the political satire comedy series Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj was axed after six seasons on the streamer. Some of the other shows to be canceled by the company this year include Turn Up Charlie, V-Wars, Spinning Out, Insatiable, Messiah, October Faction, Astronomy Club, and RuPaul's AJ & The Queen.

There's no word yet on when production on season 2 will begin, so it remains unclear when new episodes of Warrior Nun will debut on Netflix. Still, it's good to know that a second season is on the way, especially given how many other shows have been given the pink slip by Netflix in recent months. All ten episodes of the first season of Warrior Nun are streaming on Netflix now. This news comes to us from NX on Twitter.
