Lauren Cohan has shared a new picture of Scott Wilson as Hershel from the set of The Walking Dead Season 9. Wilson passed away last week after a battle with Leukemia. He was 76-years old. Fans of AMC's hit series have been looking forward to Hershel's return ever since it was announced at this year's Comic-Con, and it looks like it will be Wilson's final acting role as well, making his return even more special than it already was.

Scott Wilson first appeared as Hershel Greene in The Walking Dead Season 2 as a kind veterinarian and "lived at the emotional core of the show," according to AMC. Greene was only on the show for two seasons, after being killed off in Season 4. However, Wilson continued to attend conventions and got together with the cast whenever he could, which almost made it seem like he never left the series. Lauren Cohan's image of Winston on the set of Season 9 shows the actor in Greene's costume amongst some hay bales as he hugs his co-star. It's a nice reunion for dad and daughter Maggie.

Specific details on how Scott Winston returns to The Walking Dead are unclear at this time, but it is believed that he will more than likely show up in Rick's death vision along with all of the rest of the characters that are returning for Season 9. Andrew Lincoln is set to leave the show this season and so is Lauren Cohan, so it's going to be pretty interesting to see how the hit series continues on without them. With that being said, the show just premiered to generally favorable reviews as fans prepare to say goodbye to Rick. Despite that, ratings hit an all-time low.

While the first episode of The Walking Dead Season 9 earned mostly favorable reviews, there were still some elements that fans weren't into. The museum scene is one of the main complaints along with the running away from the horses aspect that resulted in a death. Even with a new showrunner, the show still relies on some of its old tricks, which have gotten a little stale over the course of 9 seasons. The Walking Dead fans, for the most part, seem generally pleased with the way that Rick's last season started.

The Walking Dead will be a much different show after the events of Season 9, and that could be just the shot in the arm that it needs to reinvent itself. We'll just have to wait and see. For now, fans will see how everything pans out with the big Rick Grimes episode expected to premiere on November 4th. If that ends up being the last episode for Andrew Lincoln, we will more than likely see the return of Scott Winston's Hershel Greene in the same episode. But, it wouldn't be surprising to see AMC air the show as a two-parter, or even more.
