War is coming for Rick and the gang in The Walking Dead Season 8. As many fans expected, given the way that The Walking Dead season 7 ended, Rick is going to be doing battle with Negan this year, which means there is going to be lots of action, violence and plenty to look forward to. Now, thanks to the official synopsis for The Walking Dead season 8, we know that this season will for sure be adapting the All Out War storyline and that there are going to be casualties aplenty.

AMC recently released the first full synopsis for The Walking Dead season 8, which comes to us by way of AMC. It's pretty much been confirmed previously that the All Out War storyline is on the horizon, but this synopsis uses it by name, which should be very exciting for both fans of the comics and the show. Here's the official synopsis for The Walking Dead season 8.

"Last season, Rick Grimes and his group of survivors were confronted with their deadliest challenge yet. With the comfort of Alexandria, they let their guard down, only to be reminded how brutal the world they live in can be. Feeling powerless under Negan's rules and demands, Rick advocated the group play along. But seeing that Negan couldn't be reasoned with, Rick began rallying together other communities affected by the Saviors. And with the support of the Hilltop and Kingdom, they finally have enough fire power to contest the Saviors. This season, Rick brings 'All Out War' to Negan and his forces. The Saviors are larger, better-equipped, and ruthless, but Rick and the unified communities are fighting for the promise of a brighter future. The battle lines are drawn as they launch into a kinetic, action-packed offensive. Up until now, survival has been the focus of Rick and our group, but it's not enough. They have to fight to take back their freedom so that they can live. So that they can rebuild. As with any battle, there will be losses. Casualties. But with Rick leading the Alexandrian forces, Maggie leading the Hilltop, and King Ezekiel leading the Kingdom, Negan and the Saviors' grip on this world may finally be coming to an end."

All Out War is a very important storyline that spanned 16 issues and is widely regarded as the best storyline in the comics to date. The Walking Dead TV show has taken quite a few liberties with the source material over the years, so we probably shouldn't expect a page-for-page adaptation. But still, the promise of All Out War in any form should make for a great season.

As we saw in The Walking Dead Season 8 San Diego Comic-Con trailer, it looks like there is going to be a time jump at the end of this season, just as there was after the All Out War storyline. Or so we think. There's that very mysterious shot of Rick waking up looking old and grizzled, which could signify a time jump. That means we could be seeing the introduction of new characters. Specifically, The Walking Dead #171 just introduced a new badass female character known as The Princess, who some speculate could be showing up in the series this season, or after the time jump. The character's real name is Jaunita Sanchez, a Mexican-American, who sports wild purple hair, a fluffy pink jacket and a huge machine gun. She could make for a cool, fresh addition to the cast, if the creative team wants to go that way with it.

With some characters, and we have no idea who yet, set to bit the dust in The Walking Dead season 8, some new ones are probably going to have to fill in. The Princess could fill that void. Either way, it sounds like this season could be just what the doctor ordered after the mixed season 7. The Walking Dead season 8 is set to premiere on AMC on October 22.
