The Walking Dead season 8 is going to conclude with a big bang and lots of bullets flying. AMC has released a trailer for the upcoming episode, titled Wrath, which promises to conclude the All Out War arc with exactly that; war. The footage has a few walkers in it, but the focus is clearly on the groups led by Rick and Negan getting ready for what looks to be a final showdown.

According to the synopsis for the episode,"the communities join forces in the last stand against the Saviors as all-out war unfolds." That doesn't state much beyond the obvious, but then again, sometimes things can be simple and effective. Why does the season 8 finale of The Walking Dead need to be anything more than a grandiose battle? Considering how frustrated many fans have been with the cliffhanger endings in both season 6 and season 7, having a pretty straightforward, or at least seemingly straightforward finale, may be just what is needed.

This season has seen some truly memorable and heartbreaking deaths that are going to shape The Walking Dead moving forward. But as this trailer teases, there are surely more significant deaths to come. Is this really it for Negan? Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been torturing Rick and the gang for two seasons, but he can't stick around forever. One has to imagine his days are numbered. Can the presumably final confrontation between Rick and Negan pay off in a satisfying way? There's a lot riding on it. Andrew Lincoln has teased that the finale will be "unusual" for several reasons, but will be conclusive. No need to worry about a frustrating lack of resolution at least.

There are a ton of questions already in place for The Walking Dead season 9, and it's impossible to predict what further questions will arise following this upcoming episode. Not just questions from fans, but on AMC's side as well. The Walking Dead is still easily one of the biggest shows on TV right now, but the network has been experiencing steady ratings declines. That's something they are no doubt concerned about. They might have to pull something out of their sleeves to get those who have abandoned the show back on board for season 9.

In addition to the trailer, AMC has also released a clip from Wrath, which features Negan consulting with Eugene about bullet production. Negan is, quite literally, gunning for Rick and he's not being subtle about it. After an entire season of twists, turns and big moments, the All Out War arc is coming to its conclusion. Let's just hope it can manage to be a satisfying one, setting up a ninth season that people actually want to watch. The Walking Dead season 8 finale airs Sunday, April 15 on AMC.
