Netflix has announced Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe will star in the upcoming interactive special for the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The streaming platform has received some mixed reactions to its interactive content, specifically with the Black Mirror: Bandersnatch movie. It did premiere to huge numbers, according to Netflix. However, this one will be a bit more lighthearted than that and it sounds like it could be fun for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt fans.
In the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt interactive special, Kimmy Schmidt (Ellie Kemper) sets off on what Netflix is calling "her biggest adventure yet." The show will take place in three states and it will include explosions and a dancing hamburger, which sounds a bit like the singing and dancing hamburger from Better Off Dead. It's going to be incredibly hard to top a hamburger singing and playing guitar to Van Halen's "Everybody Wants Some" while John Cusack acts like a demented Dr. Frankenstein.
The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt viewers are the ones who get to decide how the story goes. Will you foil the Reverend's (Jon Hamm) evil plan and get Kimmy to her wedding on time? Or will you accidentally start a war against the robots? Getting Daniel Radcliffe on board for the interactive special should get even more viewers than the show would normally get. With that being said, it isn't clear exactly what he'll be doing in the episode. Fans of the hit show are more than likely just happy to have some more content after the fourth and final season wrapped earlier this year.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock are writing the interactive special and remain executive producers and showrunners. Tina Fey released a statement talking about the special and shared what fans can expect. Fey had this to say about the interactive Kimmy Schmidt.
"We're thrilled to announce that we're about to start production on an all-new interactive Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt special, set to debut on Netflix in 2020. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was one of the first original comedy series on Netflix, and now it will be its first interactive comedy event. Fans will be able to make choices on behalf of our characters, taking different story paths with, of course, different jokes. I think it's a great fit for our show and will be a great way to officially complete the series."
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was created and executive produced by Tina Fey (30 Rock) and Robert Carlock (30 Rock). The show has earned 18 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series for each of its seasons. In addition to Fey and Carlock, Jeff Richmond (30 Rock), Sam Means (30 Rock), Meredith Scardino (30 Rock), and David Miner (30 Rock) also serve as executive producers. There is currently no release date set for the interactive special, but it will arrive sometime in 2020. Netflix streaming service was the first to announce the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt interactive special.
