Gerard Way has released a new song for The Umbrella Academy season 2. The song, titled Here Comes the End, was released alongside the brand new trailer for the hit Netflix series, which is based on Way's beloved comic book series of the same name. Now, the My Chemical Romance frontman has contributed a new tune for the show's return as well.

The track features Judith Hill and has a major 60s rock feel to it. This is fitting, considering the period setting of the new season. Even with the throwback vibe, the music still sounds very much like what we've come to expect from Gerard Way over the years. The title is also well-suited, as The Umbrella Academy will be getting majorly apocalyptic when it returns later this month. Way had this to say about the song.

"I was originally inspired to write this track when series one of 'Umbrella Academy' was being shot, by the time I finished it 2020 was in full swing, the world had taken a profound turn and the song was finished in a surreal new reality."

The Umbrella Academy season 2 sees Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher and Justin H. Min returning. Newcomers this year include Marin Ireland, Ritu Arya, Yusuf Gatewood, Tom Sinclair, Kris Holden-Ried and Jason Bryden. Steve Blackman serves as showrunner. Executive producers include Jeff F. King, Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg.

When the show returns, it will pick up in the aftermath of the attempt to dodge the apocalypse. Unfortunately, the time jump scatters the siblings throughout time in and around Dallas, Texas. Starting in 1960, some of them have been stuck in the past for years and have made lives for themselves, certain that nobody else survived. Five is the last to land, right the middle of a nuclear doomsday, which, as it happens, is the result of the group's messing with the timeline. Now they must find a way to reunite, figure out what caused doomsday, put a stop to it, and return to the present. All the while, they are being hunted by Swedish assassins.

The comic for which the show is based was originally published by Dark Horse in 2007. Hollywood had its sights set on an adaptation for some time, but Netflix finally made it happen. Though Gerard Way is known best for his music with My Chemical Romance, he interned at DC Comics and that was his original career trajectory. Way will be making a big return to music in the near future. My Chemical Romance had been set for a long-awaited reunion tour this year. However, that has been postponed to 2021, given the current situation. The Umbrella Academy season 2 is set to debut on July 31.
