Principal photography has concluded on the highly-anticipated new Twin Peaks for Showtime. And today, Showtime, David Lynch and Mark Frost are revealing a key piece of the mystery: the official cast of the series. Written and produced by series creators and executive producers David Lynch and Mark Frost, the new Twin Peaks is directed entirely by David Lynch, and will premiere on Showtime in 2017, on-air, on demand and over the internet.
One of the most influential and groundbreaking television series of all time, the new Showtime series picks up twenty-five years after the inhabitants of a quaint northwestern town were stunned when their homecoming queen Laura Palmer was shockingly murdered. The document provided by Showtime includes the 217 cast members appearing in the new Twin Peaks, including Golden Globe winner and Emmy Award nominee Kyle MacLachlan, who returns as FBI Agent Dale Cooper. Those who have previously appeared in the Twin Peaks world have been asterisked.
Among the returning cast members who have now been confirmed are Madchen Amick, Dana Ashbrook, David Duchovny, Sherilyn Fenn, Miguell Ferrer, Sheryl Lee, Peggy Lipton, Harry Dean Stanton, Russ Tamblyn, Ray Wise and Alicia Witt, just to name a few. Most of these actors had been rumored to return in some fashion both before and during production, which started way back in September. Several of the new cast members had been revealed in the past, such as Amanda Seyfried and Jennifer Jason Leigh, but this full cast list reveals many more stars who had not been previously announced.
Among the new casting additions are Monica Belluci, Jim Belushi, Michael Cera, David Dastmalchian, Laura Dern, Sky Ferreira, Balthazar Getty, Ernie Hudson, Ashley Judd, Robert Knepper, David Koechner, Matthew Lillard, Josh McDermitt, Sara Paxton, Trent Reznor, Tom Sizemore, Ethan Suplee, Jessica Szhor, Eddie Vedder and Naomi Watts. Unfortunately, no details were given for roles they will be playing in Twin Peaks, but hopefully we'll have more details soon. Showtime hasn't announced an exact premiere date for Twin Peaks yet, but now that production has wrapped, hopefully we'll find out when this show will debut.
Showtime originally announced that Twin Peaks will return with a new nine-episode season, but it was later revealed that the season will be much longer. David Lynch directed the entire season like one long movie, working from a script he wrote with Mark Frost. The show will then be cut into episodes during post-production, but it isn't known exactly how many episodes will be released throughout this new season.
