Kanye West took the Saturday Night Live audience on a journey that included a pro-Donald Trump rant that tore into mainstream media. The artist performed his song "Ghost Town" with a Make America Great Again hat on, which he referred to as his "Superman cape," and elicited a negative reaction from the crowd. SNL cut the live feed, but comedian Chris Rock, who was in the audience, captured the rant as well as the crowd reaction on social media and can audibly be heard laughing and then saying, "My god..."
Donald Trump says that he did not watch the show, but he appreciates that Kanye West went out of his way to say nice things about him. The 41-year old rapper started his rant with the entire cast of Saturday Night Live behind him, many of whom can be seen rolling their eyes as West tears into liberals. West started his rant by saying.
"I wanna cry right now. Black man in America, you're supposed to keep what you feel inside right now. And the liberals bully you and tell you what you can and cannot wear, where you and they can't not stare. And they look at me and say, It's not fair. How the hell did you get here? Well..."
Kanye West then went further and talked more about Donald Trump, which earned him boos from the crowd. The rapper has been a supporter of Trump since the president took office in early 2017. He has met with the president and can often be seen wearing the Make America Great Again hat in public. However, he notes that he has modified the bill of the hat to give it a different meaning. West went further on his rant saying.
"It's so many times that I talk to a white person about this, and they say, How could you support Trump? He's racist. Well if I was concerned about racism, I would have moved out of America a long time ago. We don't just make our decisions off of racism. I'ma break it down to you right now: If someone inspires me and I connect with them, I don't have to believe in all they policies."
Donald Trump tweeted early this morning to bash Saturday Night Live, stating that it's only "a political ad for Dems," declaring that the show is not funny and insinuating that nobody watches it. However, Trump did note that he once hosted the show that he is currently trashing on social media. Following his performance, Kanye West posted a picture of himself with his red hat on, promoting some of Trump's policies.
Several people look at Kanye West's Saturday Night Live performance last night as shameless self-promotion for an upcoming album. West often brings out the Donald Trump support rants and wears the Make America Great Again hat when he needs to drum up some controversy to promote something. It's easy, and free, publicity. Whatever the reasoning behind it is, you can watch the rant below, thanks to Chris Rock's Instagram page.
