Horror icon Robert Englund is pairing with the Travel Channel for a new series. True Terror with Robert Englund is a six-part docuseries that will take horror fans on new adventures with Englund. The Nightmare on Elm Street star will be taking stories ripped straight from the headlines and retelling them to a new audience, which will more than likely be pretty popular due to how hot the true crime genre is right now.
The Robert Englund hosted show was previously announced back in April 2019, but under the title Shadows of History. It was revealed last year that the show would be a six-part docuseries and that will remain the case. The Travel Channel has not announced further episodes as of this writing.
True Terror with Robert Englund takes a look at our nation's history and reveals true terrifying tales. Veteran actor and legendary horror movie icon Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger of the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise) scours news reports of the past to bring viewers twisted tales ripped straight from the headlines. In each episode, Englund uses his ominous tones and creepy charisma to masterfully weave together a trilogy of spine-tingling tales, guided by newspaper accounts and layered with commentary from historians and experts that prove that truth is always stranger than fiction. From flying monsters to creatures in the night, to evil possessions and hauntings, these twisted tales will leave viewers wishing the stories really were only in their dreams.
Robert Englund is excited to pair with the Travel Channel for True Terror. "Revealing the sinister side of our history, I'm thrilled to bring nightmares to life on True Terror," said the Freddy Krueger actor. He went on to state, "These are tales so terrifyingly twisted, we can only hope they stay on the blood-soaked pages of the newspaper headlines from our past." This sounds like a dream-come-true for a lot of horror fans who have been waiting to see Englund in something else.
Matthew Butler, general manager, Travel Channel, is also very excited for the True Terror. "We're delighted at Travel Channel to have the true icon of horror films, Robert Englund, take a 'stab' at leading our viewers through these hair-raising tales," he said. Horror fans saw Englund on the small screen in late 2018 to reprise Freddy for an episode of The Goldbergs, leading to rampant rumors that he was going to be getting into character again.
The premiere episode of True Terror with Robert Englund is titled Twisted Relationships and it will air on Wednesday, March 18th at 10 PM ET. The story begins with a North Carolina storekeeper who is tormented by a prophetic countdown to his doom. Did he will his own fate, or was there a higher power at play? Then, a New Orleans teenager finds himself literally trapped inside a waking nightmare, unable to save himself from his horrific fate. Finally, an Atlanta police station becomes a battleground for a killer... and a vengeful spirit. There are plenty more terrors in store for horror fans in the other five episodes. Real Screen was the first to announce the Robert Englund and Travel Channel partnership.
