Kevin Hart and Wesley Snipes will play brothers in True Story, a new limited series in the works at Netflix. The show is written and executive produced by Eric Newman, who has already found success at the streamer by exec producing the crime drama series Narcos: Mexico. Hart's HartBeat Productions will also be producing the project with Hart also serving as an exec producer for the eight-episode series.

True Story is fictional, but it appears to be inspired in part by Hart's life and career. For the series, the Philadelphia-born Kevin Hart will be playing a comedian named Kid with Snipes playing his older brother, Carlton. According to the logline, a "tour stop in Kid's hometown of Philadelphia becomes a matter of life and death for one of the world's most famous comedians when the consequences of a lost evening with his wayward older brother threaten to destroy everything he's built."

"I've never been more excited about an acting project in my career," Hart said of the project. "I've always been a fan of Wesley Snipes and working with him is mind-blowing. Having HartBeat Productions at the helm and working alongside Eric Newman as a partner and creative arm has been unreal, nobody is ready for what this show is going to be."

"Kevin Hart's career is one defined by courageous creative risks and Wesley Snipes is a legendary talent - together they are truly a dream team," Newman also said. "I am absolutely thrilled to be working with these two. As always, I am grateful to Netflix for their continued support, as well as to Charles Murray, Stephen Williams, and Hanelle Culpepper for their creative partnership."

Hart is a comedian at heart, but he has also been building his resume as a professional actor. He is known for his comedy roles in movies like Ride Along and the Jumanji movies, also lending his voice to animated characters in The Secret Life of Pets and Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. He has since delved into more dramatic acting with a starring role alongside Bryan Cranston and Nicole Kidman in Neil Burger's 2017 drama The Upside and has multiple other big screen projects on the horizon.

Additionally, Hart also played a fictionalized version of himself in the Quibi series Die Hart. In the short-lived series, Hart sought to make himself an action star in movies only to become a real-life action hero. The series also starred Nathalie Emmanuel, John Travolta, Jean Reno, Josh Hartnett, and Milana Vayntrub. As Quibi has since shut down, it would also appear that Die Hart is no more, but it wasn't long for Hart to find something new to keep himself busy.

Meanwhile, Snipes had been busy revitalizing his acting career in recent years. He had a memorable part in the hit Netflix movie Dolemite Is My Name alongside Eddie Murphy. Additionally, Snipes will again co-star with Murphy in the upcoming sequel Coming 2 America, which is scheduled to be released on March 5, 2021, on Amazon Prime Video.
