We are still several months away from the Season 6 premiere of True Blood, although it's never too early to start casting for new roles. Today, Rutger Hauer (Hobo with a Shotgun) has signed on as a series regular this coming season.

The actor will portray Macklyn, a shady character with ties to Sookie (Anna Paquin) and Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten). Rutger Hauer has over 130 credits to his name, although most have been in movie roles. His last role on an American TV series was Morgan Edge on Smallville back in 2003.

Season 6 of True Blood is slated to premiere next June on HBO. This will also be the first season that series creator Alan Ball will not serve as showrunner. We reported in May that Mark Hudis will step in to run the series.

Stay tuned for more casting news as we inch ever so closer to Season 6 of True Blood.
