HBO has renewed the hit vampire series True Blood for Season 6 and their new Aaron Sorkin show The Newsroom for Season 2.

The Newsroom's renewal comes after only two Season 1 episodes have aired. The series stars Jeff Daniels as Will McAvoy, the anchor of a cable news program dubbed News Night. Emily Mortimer stars as Will's new executive producer, Macenzie McHale, and Sam Waterston portrays their boss, Charlie Skinner. John Gallagher Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, and Dev Patel also star. The show debuted on June 24, with 2.1 million viewers tuning in.

True Blood has continued to pull in massive numbers, with 4.7 million viewers watching the Season 5 premiere on June 10. Back in February, we reported that series creator Alan Ball is stepping down as showrunner after this current season. We also reported in May that Mark Hudis is replacing him as showrunner for Season 6.
