Last week it was rumored that Fred Ward would be reuniting with Kevin Bacon in the long-awaited Tremors TV show. In a new interview with Tremors 6 star Michael Gross, the actor confirmed that Fred Ward will be back. Giving fans a true reunion and follow-up to the original movie. Sort of. Because, believe it or not, Gross himself wasn't asked to return.

While this new Tremors TV series is definitely on the way, unfortunately for fans of the franchise, Burt Gummer won't be showing up in it. Michael Gross, who has starred in every single Tremors movie and the original TV series from way back in the day, had previously confirmed that he won't be returning in the show. Now, the actor discusses with us what he knows, the fact that Fred Ward is coming back, and his true feelings on the matter.

Kevin Bacon is finally returning to the Tremors franchise after nearly thirty years. He hasn't played Valentine McKee since the original movie, but he's finally decided to return to the role all of these years later. We recently got the chance to speak with Michael Gross in honor of the upcoming Tremors 6: A Cold Day in Hell. During the course of our conversation with him, we asked him why Burt Gummer isn't being included in the upcoming TV series and how he feels about it. Here's what he had to say, revealing that, while he won't be back, Fred Ward's Earl Bassett will be.

"My understanding is, and again, I know as much or as little as anybody else does, and these are from Kevin Bacon's own words. He said that he wanted to explore that character of Val all these years later. Now, what brought him to that at this moment in time? I have no idea. I just heard today that Fred Ward will be joining him in this. So, I think it's he wants to focus on the exploration of a friendship between these two guys. To be honest with you, I don't know if there's a monster in it. I have no idea. I don't know whether this is a character study. I would have liked Kevin to be a part of the franchise for all these years and I'm sorry that didn't happen because I enjoyed working with him and loved working with Fred Ward in Tremors one and two."

So not only is Kevin Bacon coming back, but Fred Ward is also returning as Earl Bassett. That makes the absence of Michael Gross as Burt Gummer, who has anchored the Tremors franchise for 28 years, all the more noticeable. Gross continued, saying that his main disappointment in not being included has to do with the fact that he enjoyed working with Bacon and Ward and that he would love to see the ensemble back together.

"I'm disappointed that we're not all together, let's just put it that way. I'm disappointed when any great ensemble breaks up. I've had a blast keeping the franchise alive and going with the help of Universal Studios. I don't do it by myself. We're 28 years since that first one came out, so I'm thrilled to play the part I am because I just adore Burt. Why they made the creative choices? I have no idea. I know probably as much as you do and that's about it."

Currently, we know that filming on the pilot for the Tremors TV series has wrapped. It's unclear if the network has picked it up to series just yet, but it seems likely that will be the case. Even though Burt Gummer won't be a part of the show, he's going to appear in Tremors: A Cold Day in Hello, which arrives on May 1. Michael Gross also teased in our interview that Tremors 7 is already being discussed, so we haven't seen the last of him. Maybe SyFy can find a way to work Burt Gummer into the series down the road a bit.
