The Autobots and Decepticons are coming to Netflix this summer. The streaming service has announced the premiere date for Transformers War for Cybertron: Siege. This is set to be the first part in a new, epic Transformers trilogy that was announced earlier this year. To go along with the premiere date announcement, Netflix has released a brief teaser that previews the action to come.

Brief though it may be, the teaser promises huge animated action with big stakes. Megatron is waging all-out war on the Autobots, bringing together every resource at his disposal to take them out once and for all. While the animation is glossy and modern it should make fans of the 80s animated series happy, as it is very much cut from the same cloth. Netflix shared the teaser to its social media accounts, confirming that the first entry in this trilogy will arrive next month.

"The fight worth fighting. Transformers War for Cybertron: Siege streams July 30th"

The first part of this Transformers trilogy will consist of six, 22-minute episodes. That means it will probably, more or less, play out like a movie if binged. The cast includes Jake Foushee (Optimus Prime), Jason Marnocha (Megatron), Linsay Rousseau (Elita-1), Joe Zieja (Bumblebee), Frank Todaro (Starscream), Rafael Goldstein (Ratchet), Keith Silverstein (Jetfire), Todd Haberkorn (Shockwave, Red Alert), Edward Bosco (Ultra Magnus, Soundwave), Bill Rogers (Wheeljack), Sophia Isabella (Arcee), Brook Chalmers (Impactor), Shawn Hawkins (Mirage), Kaiser Johnson (Ironhide), Miles Luna (Teletraan I, Cliffjumper) and Mark Whitten (Sideswipe, Skywarp). FJ DeSanto is on board as the showrunner.

Transformers War for Cybertron: Siege picks up in the final hours of the civil war between the Autobots and Decepticons. Cybertron has been torn apart by the conflict and is at a tipping point. Optimus Prime and Megatron both hope to save their world and unify their people, but on their own terms. Seeking to end the war, Megatron is forced to consider using the Allspark, the source of all life and power on Cybertron, hoping to "reformat" the Autobots and unifying Cybertron. Outnumbered, outgunned, and under siege, the Autobots orchestrate a desperate series of attacks. If the mission succeeds, it will end with an unthinkable choice: kill Cybertron in order to save it.

Rooster Teeth and Polygon Pictures have partnered with Netflix to produce the series. George Krstic (Megas XLR), Gavin Hignight (Transformers: Cyberverse), and Brandon Easton (Agent Carter, Transformers: Rescue Bots) serve as writers on the series. There is no word on what the gap will be like between installments of the trilogy, but Netflix has generally been pretty good about churning out animated projects in a timely manner. Though the ongoing production shutdown may have had an effect on the originally intended release schedule. Transformers War for Cybertron: Siege arrives next month on Netflix.
