We have a new live-action Barbara Gordon. Actress Savannah Welch has been added to the cast of Titans season 3 as the iconic character from the pages of DC Comics. It has previously been revealed that Gordon would be appearing in the upcoming season of the live-action series but it was not made clear who would be portraying the character. The honor goes to Welch, who will be joining the ensemble when the show makes its move to HBO Max.

According to a new report, Savannah Welch will play Barbara Gordon in Titans season 3. This version of the character used to be Batgirl but no longer holds the mantle of the crime-fighting hero. She now serves as the Gotham City Police Commissioner, taking up after her dad, Jim Gordon, one of Batman's closest allies. The report notes that she was shot by the Joker during her Batgirl days, which paralyzed her and confined her to a wheelchair. The character is also said to have a "combative" relationship with Bruce Wayne. Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites) will make his return to Gotham in the new season, with the two "rekindling their old romance and starting a new crime fighting partnership."

Savannah Welch is known for her roles in movies such as The Tree of Life and Boyhood. She recently starred in the History Channel series Six. Welch is also an amputee. She lost her leg in a car accident in 2016. In the years since the accident, Welch has become a voice for the disabled community. That should provide her with a personal connection to the role. Some of her other credits include The Transcendents and The Golden Rut. Barbara Gordon has been played several times in the past. Yvonne Craig played the part alongside Adam West in the 60s Batman TV show, and Dina Meyer portrayed Gordon in the short-lived Birds of Prey series.

Titans season 3 sees the return of Rachel Roth, aka Raven (Teagan Croft); Gar Logan, aka Beast Boy (Ryan Potter); Donna Troy, aka Wondergirl (Conor Leslie); Conner Kent, aka Superboy (Joshua Orpin); Blackfire (Damaris Lewis); Hank Hall, aka Hawk (Alan Ritchson); and Dawn Granger, aka Dove (Minka Kelly). Curran Walters is also set to reprise his role as Jason Todd, albeit in a new capacity. The actor will be playing the villain Red Hood, which will mark the character's live-action debut. The villain Scarecrow will also be joining in on the action this season, though the actor has yet to be revealed.

Originally debuting on the DC Universe streaming service, Titans is set to migrate to HBO Max in its third season. DC Universe was repositioned as a comic book service, with all DC content moving to HBO Max, which is WarnerMedia's major streaming play. As such, it made sense for them to put everything under one roof. Titans season 3 does not yet have a premiere date set but is expected to arrive sometime this year. We'll be sure to keep you posted as further details are made available. This news comes to us via Variety.
