An iconic DC character is set to join the Titans fold in season 3. It has been confirmed that Barbara Gordon, one of the people who becomes Batgirl, will be joining Nightwing and the gang in the upcoming run of new episodes. While the confirmation may serve as a nice surprise for fans of the show, or the character in general, it does open up some interesting questions about how exactly she will be utilized.

The reveal came from series cinematographer and director Boris Mojovski. He was recently interviewed via Facebook live for the Canadian Society of Cinematographers. During the conversation, the subject of Titans season 3 came up. Mojovski then revealed that Barbara Gordon will be heading to the DC universe for the first episode of the new season. Here's what Mojovski had to say about it.

"Our first episode will have a new character, and it'll be Barbara Gordon."

Unfortunately, that's all the man had to say about it for now, meaning we are tragically short on details for the time being. There is no word at this time who might be cast to play the part. Barbara Gordon is an incredibly important character in the pages of DC Comics. She made her first appearance in Detective Comics #359 as Batgirl, a female counterpart to Batman.

That is how she is best known, but it's possible we could just see Barbara Gordon as Barbara Gordon. There is also the possibility we see her take up the mantle of Oracle, a character first introduced in 1989. This persona came about after the character was partially paralyzed in the iconic Batman: The Killing Joke. Oracle is a technical advisor and computer expert who provides information to assist other superheroes.

It's easy to see how a character like that might fit into the established dynamic. Especially since we already have Iain Glen established as Batman/Bruce Wayne in this universe. It's also interesting, given that Barbara Gordon is also set to be the subject of a big screen solo adventure, as Warner Bros. has long been developing a Batgirl movie. The rest of the cast includes Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson, Anna Diop as Starfire, Alan Ritchson as Hawk, Minka Kelly as Dove, Chelsea Zhang as Ravager, Joshua Orpin as Superboy and Chella Man as Jericho.

Titans was the first original series produced for the DC Universe streaming service. Season 1 launched in 2018 to generally favorable reviews from viewers and critics alike. Season 2 premiered in September of last year. Season 3 was announced not long after in November. There is no word yet on a specific premiere date, but Titans is expected to return in the fall. Though, the current production shutdown in Hollywood could impact those plans. We'll be sure to keep you posted as any further details are made available.
