Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov has plans to produce and direct an upcoming fantasy-action re-imagining of the classic family adventure The Wizard of Oz titled Warriors of Oz.

The mini-series will air on Syfy and is a futuristic post-apocalyptic version of the classic tale. The story will center on a present day warrior, who is transported to a post-apocalyptic future Oz. Once there, he teams with three other warriors named Heartless, Brainless, and Coward to take down the evil Wizard that has enslaved the inhabitants.

Timur Bekmambetov is also known for directing Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The series is being produced by Universal Cable Prods. The project is still looking for a writer.

Sam Raimi's most recently adapted the story with Oz: The Great and Powerful, which starred James Franco and Mila Kunis. Summertime Entertainment also has an animated musical titled Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return hitting theaters May 9, 2014.
