Recently, rumors were circulating that Aquaman star Jason Momoa was in the running to play the lead role in The Witcher prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin. If that turns out to be true, Momoa will be playing a predecessor of his Justice League co-star Henry Cavill. Momoa teased fans as well as Cavill about the rumor by posting a piece of fanart on Instagram Stories with the words, "What's up, homie." alongside some laughing emojis, with Cavill tagged in the post.

The fanart places Momoa back to back with Cavill in his lead role of Geralt in The Witcher. The two broad-shouldered superheroes look very commanding. Momoa looks right at home in the world of The Witcher, and someone you could easily buy as the guy whose footsteps Geralt is following in.

After the massive success of the first season of The Witcher, a number of spin-offs were greenlit to cash in on the franchise. The Witcher: Blood Origin is one such spinoff that will focus on the first Witcher to ever appear on the continent, and reports have stated Jason Momoa is in early talks to play the lead role on the upcoming show.

The Witcher: Blood Origin is set to take place at around roughly 1,200 years in the Continent's history. In that time period, the Conjunction of the Sphere took place, a cataclysmic event in which the various disparate races, from Humans to Elves and Monsters, came into contact with one another. A fierce struggle for supremacy ensued, and Humans emerged as the dominant race, wrestling control over the continent away from older races of Elves, Dwarves, and Halflings.

Into this troubled time, there will appear the world's very first Witcher, establishing a long line of magical monster-hunters that would one day culminate in Geralt of Rivia. The live-action adaptation of Blood Origins was announced back in July and is said to be a limited series containing just six episodes. Showrunner Declan de Barra teased some plot details, and what fans can expect from the prequel.

"I've always been fascinated by the rise and fall of civilizations... The Witcher: Blood Origin will tell the tale of the Elven civilization before its fall, and most importantly reveal the forgotten history of the very first Witcher."

If Momoa does end up being cast in the series, he will become the second DCEU lead actor after Cavil to lend his talents to the world of The Witcher. It is a sign of the sudden and rapid rise of digital platforms that lead actors from one of Hollywood's biggest movie franchises would be willing to join a streaming show in place of doing Hollywood films.

For now, Cavill and Momoa will next be seen together in Zack Snyder's Justice League, debuting next year on HBO Max after a long and tortured production process. The Witcher features a lead cast of Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 1 is now available on Netflix.
