The Walking Dead has shared the first images of Samantha Morton's Alpha from the upcoming second half of Season 9. The Whisperers were finally introduced earlier this year, but we have yet to meet their leader, which is about to change really soon. Fans of the comic series were ecstatic to learn that Morton had signed on to portray Alpha in Season 9. And now, we have the very first look at the character in an image and poster.

Alpha was briefly seen in The Walking Dead midseason trailer, but she's the focus of the latest promotional material. The poster features the character with her finger to her mouth, telling the Whisperers to be quiet while wearing the skin of a walker. It's a pretty creepy visual, which ramps up even more in the first image from the show that AMC released. In the comics, Alpha is bald, but it's unclear if that's her hair in the photos, or if it previously belonged to someone else.

In addition to Alpha, The Walking Dead Season 9 will also introduce her daughter Lydia, played by Cassady McClincy, and her second-in-command Beta, who is played by Ryan Hurst. There are going to be some pretty big changes from the comic book storyline in order for the characters to fit into the current storyline. In the source material, Lydia is in a relationship with Carl Grimes, which for obvious reasons, won't work in Season 9. Plus, Rick Grimes is no longer on the hit series. However, things are about to get really interesting when the second half of Season 9 debuts.

The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang has revealed that fans are about to learn a lot more about the Whisperers in Season 9. From the sound of things, the show is about to get a lot darker as Alpha comes on board and takes the lead. Even the pictures from the upcoming season look a little more crazy than we're used to seeing from the AMC series. Kang had this to say about the arrival of the Whisperers.

"We'll get to know more about this group and their brutal survival of the fittest philosophy and how that really plays out in horrifying ways."

The Walking Dead Season 9 returns to AMC on Sunday, February 10th, which thankfully, is only a few months away. The return of the show will see the main group starting to question their reality, which more than likely has something to do with the way that Alpha and the Whisperers conduct themselves to remain safe amongst the dead. Hopefully the show gets a ratings uptick when it returns with the new fan-favorite characters. While we wait to find out, you can check out the first look at Alpha below, thanks to The Walking Dead AMC Twitter account.
