New images from The Walking Dead season 10 feature Thora Birch as Gamma. AMC released a new trailer for the upcoming season at San Diego Comic-Con last weekend and it looks like they're turning up the heat. It was also revealed that the American Beauty actress had been cast as Gamma, who has been described as a sentry for The Whisperers who has become an acolyte of Alpha. The two new images feature Birch's Gamma with and without the gruesome Whisperer mask.
Gamma is going to step up the Whisperers way of life in The Walking Dead season 10. She is said to "believe 200 percent in both the group's animalistic way of life and in their merciless leader." This puts her at the extreme opposite of Alpha's daughter Lydia. With the addition of Thora Birch as Gamma, we're about to see the Whisperers gain even more power. Kevin Carroll is another newcomer to the hit AMC series and is playing Virgil, a survivor who is "anxious to get home to his family."
Danai Gurira is exiting The Walking Dead at some point during season 10. Gurira has since teased Michonne's satisfying final season, noting that "it's bigger than any one part." Gurira is incredibly proud of the work she was able to do on the show, which allowed her to collaborate and further add depth to her character. Fans are going to be sad to see her go, but now is the time. She had this to say about her time on the show.
"I think there's a stunning amount of work that (showrunner Angela Kang) does with her team, the way that they come at story, and even allow you to participate, is really fantastic. And so I really felt able to not only participate and collaborate, but I also felt they created such a great structure for how Michonne would leave the show."
The Walking Dead season 10 is bringing in the natural element of fire and showrunner Angela Kang previously said it will play a major role in the upcoming season, which is fast approaching. The added element and the new cast members is something the show has done over the years to keep it fresh and it seems to be working out pretty well for them, even as beloved cast members take off to do other projects.
The Walking Dead season 10 debuts October 6th, exclusively on AMC. It's going to be a big season that will see Danai Gurira leave and introduce Thora Birch as a pretty intimidating Whisperer. Angela Kang also teased there would be a lot of callbacks to Robert Kirkman's source material to look forward to. It will be interesting to see how the story evolves in the new season.
