Dropping us right into the Netflix action, the scene opens with Five slowly trying to get to grips with where he and his family have ended up following the group's trip through time at the end of the first series. As Five looks for clues as to where (and when) exactly they are, an all-out battle ensues between the titular superheroes and the American and Russian military, with each member of the team given the chance to demonstrate their powers in increasingly more epic ways before the scene ends with what looks like a huge nuclear explosion.

The Umbrella Academy is based on the comic book series of the same name which was created and written by lead vocalist of the rock band My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way. The Umbrella Academy source material was illustrated by Gabriel Bá and published by Dark Horse Comics. The series has been produced by Universal Content Productions for Netflix, with Steve Blackman serving as executive producer and showrunner.

Beginning in 1989, The Umbrella Academy details a highly unusual occurrence wherein forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a billionaire industrialist, who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his "children" to save the world. But not everything goes according to plan. In their teenage years, the family fractures, and the team disbands.

The second series will pick up with the dysfunctional super-powered family immediately after the end of the first series, with our mixed up heroes having been thrown through time in order to prevent the apocalypse. The official synopsis for the second season read, "Five warned his family (so, so many times) that using his powers to escape from Vanya's 2019 apocalypse was risky. Well, he was right - the time jump scatters the siblings in time in and around Dallas, Texas.

Over a three year period. Starting in 1960. Some, having been stuck in the past for years, have built lives and moved on, certain they're the only ones who survived. Five is the last to land, smack dab in the middle of a nuclear doomsday, which - spoiler alert! - turns out is a result of the group's disruption of the timeline (déjà vu, anyone?). Now the Umbrella Academy must find a way to reunite, figure out what caused doomsday, put a stop to it, and return to the present timeline to stop that other apocalypse. All while being hunted by a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins. But seriously, no pressure or anything."

The ensemble cast features Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Cameron Britton, and Mary J. Blige. Season 2 of The Umbrella Academy is scheduled to be released to Netflix on July 31st. This comes to us courtesy of the official Netflix Youtube channel.
