The Umbrella Academy composer Jeff Russo is teasing some big changes for season 2. A new setting, along with new characters will be introduced in the highly anticipated second season. Fans of the hit Netflix series were happy to learn that the streaming platform had ordered another season, which is again based on comics created by Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance and artist Gabriel Bá.

Music was a big element in The Umbrella Academy season 1 and that will remain a constant for season 2, explains composer Jeff Russo. For Russo, the score, along with outside songs, can be used to help identify settings and themes. That's something that definitely stuck out in season one. Russo had this to say about the upcoming The Umbrella Academy season 2.

"Well, there's definitely a big change in setting, that's for sure. And we tried not to change too much the approach of how to tell the story musically. I mean, we used a lot of really great songs in season one. We're going to be using a lot of great songs in season two."

The music included in The Umbrella Academy season 2 will also be used to identify new and old characters. Jeff Russo had fun creating new themes for some surprises in season 2, which was also a challenge at the same time. Hopefully more fans will take notice of the original music used in the show to see how much hard work goes into making it. Russo explains.

"We use score in a very meaningful way to support the emotional arcs of all of our characters in season one. We'll be doing that again in season two. There are some new characters that we're going to be having some fun with from a score perspective and that's always fun, coming up with new thematic ideas for new characters and how to underscore them. So there's a lot of new and then there's a lot of the same. It's a lot of both, but it's definitely a thrill ride this year."

The Umbrella Academy season 2 last left us as the Hargreeves siblings attempted a jump through time. It is unclear where and when they ended up, since there isn't a lot of information about season 2. However, this is more than likely where the new setting and new characters will come from that Joe Russo was referring to. Regardless, the Hargreeves are going to be trying to stop the world from ending, so hopefully they run into some people who can help out. One thing is for sure, Vanya (Ellen Page), Luther (Tom Hopper), Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Diego (David Castañeda), Number Five (Aidan Gallagher), and Ben (Ethan Hwang), will all return.

The Umbrella Academy season 2 wrapped production back in November 2019 and is currently in the post-production phase. So far, it is believed that it has not been affected by the world's current state of affairs. With that being said, Netflix has yet to announce a premiere date as of this writing. Season 1 premiered in February 2019, so it could be a while before we end up seeing season 2. The interview with Jeff Russo was originally conducted by Comic Book.
