We have a new look at The Umbrella Academy season 2 ahead of its premiere later this week on Netflix. The show will be using a time travel plot device, given what happened at the end of season 1, so literally anything is possible. Case in point, we have our first official look at Baby Pogo, revealing the beloved primate in his younger days.

This would not be possible without the use of time travel, or a flashback, given Pogo's fate in season 1. But the character is back and looking quite a bit different. Less grizzled and more adorable. Netflix revealed the image on its social media channels and promised that more sneak peeks will be coming throughout the week. The image was shared with the following caption.

Comparisons to Baby Yoda from The Mandalorian were made on social media. The Star Wars character became radically popular following its debut in the hit Disney+ series last year. Given that they are both cute, younger depictions of other beloved characters from established franchises, the comparison feels warranted. Steven Blackman, showrunner of the series, shared the photo as well over on Instagram, saying the following.

"That is one cute chimp."

The Umbrella Academy season 2 trailer shows the series picking up following Five's warning to his family about using his powers to escape from Vanya's 2019 apocalypse. The siblings wind up scattered back in time over a three year period in and around Dallas, Texas. Starting in 1960, some of them have moved on, making lives for themselves believing they were the only ones that survived. Five arrives last, right in the middle of a nuclear doomsday, which resulted from them disrupting the timeline. Now the group must find a way to reunite, figure out what caused all of this, put a stop to it and return to the present timeline to stop the impending apocalypse. On top of that, they are being hunted by a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins.

The series is adapted from Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba's acclaimed comic book of the same name, which was originally published by Dark Horse. Way and Ba both serve as producers on the series as well. Way, who also fronts My Chemical Romance, additionally wrote a new song for season 2. The cast includes Ellen Page, Mary J. Blige, Tom Hopper, Cameron Britton, Robert Sheehan, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Adam Godley, Kate Walsh, Aidan Gallagher, David Castañeda. John Magaro, Ashley Madekwe and Colm Feore. So far, the reviews for season 2 have been overwhelmingly positive. The Umbrella Academy returns on July 31. Be sure to check out the new photo for yourself from the official Netflix Twitter account.
