Following The Strain Season 4 preview that debuted a few weeks ago, FX has finally announced when the final episodes will debut. FX revealed today that The Strain will return for its fourth and final action-packed season on Sunday, July 16 at 10 PM ET/PT on FX. The trailer teased a mysterious new organization known as The Partnership, which appears at first to be trying to get people to donate blood, but there may be mysterious motives afoot.

As the fourth and final season begins, nine months have passed. The world has fallen into darkness, and the strigoi are in control. The explosion at the end of season three triggered a global nuclear apocalypse. The resulting nuclear winter liberated the strigoi, allowing them to move about during daytime, and allowing the Master to establish a totalitarian regime. Preying on the fears of the populace, the Master and his minions have created an unsettling alliance in "The Partnership."

The majority of humans are now working for the strigoi, operating with a single understanding, collaborate or die. With the world in disarray and our heroes disbanded, each of them will have to overcome personal hardship and defy death for even the smallest chance at fighting back... All the while, The Master reigns supreme, furthering his scheme for the end of the world as we know it. In the face of annihilation...do our heroes have what it takes to save humankind?

The Strain, the acclaimed thriller based off of the best-selling The Strain Trilogy by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, hails from Showrunner/Executive Producer/Writer Carlton Cuse along with Co-Creators/Executive Producers/Writers del Toro and Hogan. J. Miles Dale, Gary Ungar, Bradley Thompson and David Weddle also serve as Executive Producers. The ensemble cast stars Corey Stoll, David Bradley, Jonathan Hyde, Kevin Durand, Ruta Gedmintas, Miguel Gomez, Richard Sammel, Max Charles and Rupert Penry-Jones. The series is produced by FX Productions.

While The Strain started off as a popular genre hit for FX, the ratings started dropping quite quickly. The first season of The Strain averaged 2.21 million viewers per episode, with a 1.02 rating in the 18-49 demographic. The second season fell off quite sharply, pulling in an average of 1.34 million viewers per episode and a 0.59 rating in 18-49. Last season, the show dropped to 961,000 average viewers per episode, with just a 0.42 18-49 rating. Perhaps this final season will bring some renewed interest back to the waning series before it says goodbye forever.

The Season 3 finale ended with Ephraim Goodweather's (Corey Stoll) son Zach (Max Charles) causing a nuclear blast in New York City, and with this season set nine months after, it remains to be seen what the fallout will be. New cast members include Jocelyn Hudon, who has a multi-episode arc in the final season as Abby, a young woman in grave danger, who must use every tool in her arsenal to survive. Jess Salgueiro also has a recurring role as Rosalinda, a tough young lady who has been held captive in a mysterious experimental medical ward, along with K.C. Collins as Roman, who tries to help the main characters survive. Hopefully we'll be seeing more videos for this final season of The Strain very soon.
