The cast and creators of the hit HBO series The Sopranos will soon reunite for a special live fundraiser to benefit Friends of Firefighters, an organization founded in the aftermath of 9/11 to support active and retired FDNY firefighters and their families. A two-hour virtual event, the reunion will be hosted on Tiltify's Twitch page this week on the evening of Friday, Dec. 18.

A who's who of familiar faces will be present for the Sopranos reunion, including Steve Buscemi (Tony Blundetto), Lorraine Bracco (Jennifer Melfi), Edie Falco (Carmela Soprano), Michael Imperioli (Christopher Moltisanti), Robert Iler (A.J. Soprano), Drea de Matteo (Adriana La Cerva), Vincent Pastore (Salvatore Bonspensiero), Steve Schirripa (Bobby Baccalieri), Jamie-Lynn Sigler (Meadow Soprano), Steven Van Zandt (Silvio Dante), and Maureen Van Zandt (Gabriella Dante).

Writer/director Tim Van Patten, writer/producer Terence Winter, and series creator David Chase will also be present, joining the actors in a Q&A session about the series. Additionally, there will be a live reading of a new sketch written exclusively for the fundraiser by Chase and Winter. Of course, it goes without saying that the late James Gandolfini will be sorely missed at the reunion, but his former co-stars and colleagues will likely be paying tribute to the beloved actor.

The Sopranos was ahead of its time when it debuted on HBO Max in 1999, arriving at a time when there was nothing else on television like it. Gandolfini starred as Italian-American mobster Tony Soprano, following his life as he juggles his roles as both a family man and the leader of a criminal organization. The show ultimately ran for six seasons before coming to an end in 2007, and during that time, the critically-acclaimed series won a plethora of prestigious awards, including 21 Primetime Emmy Awards and five Golden Globes.

Set for release next year, the upcoming prequel movie The Many Saints of Newark will expand The Sopranos franchise. Gandolfini's real-life son Michael Gandolfini will play a younger Tony Soprano in the movie, and given that he's a dead ringer for his dad, the casting couldn't have been any better. Allesandro Nivola, Leslie Odom Jr., Jon Bernthal, Ray Liotta, and Vera Farmiga also star. Chase wrote the screenplay alongside Lawrence Konner and Alan Taylor directs. Warner Bros. Pictures will release the prequel on March 12, 2021.

A nonprofit, Friends of Firefighters provides free, independent, and confidential mental health counseling, peer support, and wellness services to current and former FDNY firefighters and their family members. According to the group, firefighters encounter situations the public rarely, if ever, must face, and reducing the stigma associated with mental health in the fire service can help protect those who risk their lives every day for others.
