While NBC is gearing up to launch their drama series Hannibal this fall, based on the legendary character Hannibal Lecter from Silence of the Lambs, Lifetime is moving forward on its own spin-off, which will follow FBI Agent Clarice Starling, a role originated by Jodie Foster and later played by Julianne Moore.

Titled Clarice, this hour-long drama series will follow the young woman as she graduates from the FBI Academy. NBC's Hannibal will not include Clarice, instead focusing on the relationship between Hannibal and FBI criminal profiler Will Graham.

Clarice will not deviate from the character created in the original novels by Thomas Harris. In the series, she will still grow up in West Virginia, where her father, a police officer, is shot and killed. After moving to her father's farm in Montana, young Clarice runs away and eventually ends up in an orphanage. After college, she enrolls in the FBI Academy, and that is where we will first meet her. The series takes place before the story seen in Silence of the Lambs.

No casting for Clarice Starling has been mentioned at this time. It is unclear when Clarice will go into production, or when it may air on Lifetime.
