HBO has released the first trailer for The Righteous Gemstones while announcing that the show premieres in August. Danny McBride, John Goodman, and Adam DeVine star in the televangelist satire, which was first announced by the network in June of 2018 when they ordered a pilot. By October 2018, a full season had been ordered after looking at the chemistry between Goodman, McBride, and DeVine. The trailer for The Righteous Gemstones looks like it will be a must for fans of Eastbound and Down and Vice Principals.

In addition to starring in The Righteous Gemstones, Danny McBride also writes, directs, and executive produces the series with David Gordon Green. The two are fresh off of the success of their Halloween sequel and are back in the comedy game with what looks like a hilarious series. The trailer is brief, but there is a lot of bickering between the three and the combination looks almost too good to be true. As for the tone, it is definitely from the mind of McBride, with a ton of awkward weirdness thrown around.

The Righteous Gemstones centers around a fictional world-famous televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance, greed, and a bit of charitable work thrown in the mix, all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Danny McBride stars as Jesse Gemstone, a character who sees himself as a bit of a pioneer in the ministry game. Jesse is taking what his father, Eli Gemstone (John Goodman), has built and expanded it for a modern audience. Adam DeVine plays Kelvin Gemstone, the younger brother who seems to be a pretty big thorn in Jesse's side in the first trailer for the new comedy.

In addition to John Goodman, Danny McBride, and Adam DeVine, The Righteous Gemstones also stars Edi Patterson as Jesse's sister Judy, Cassidy Freeman as Jesse's wife Amber, who is a former journalist now devoted to the church, Tony Cavalero as ex-Satanist Keefe Chambers, who was saved by Jesse's younger brother Kelvin, Tim Baltz as Judy's fiance, BJ, and Greg Alan Williams as Martin Imari, a conservative Kenyan, and Eli's right-hand man. McBride has thrown together quite the cast. Hopefully the show can live up to the hype with so much talent surrounding it.

The Righteous Gemstones is all set to premiere in August on HBO. No specific premiere date has been announced at this time, but it should be announced in the near future. HBO's main focus is getting through Game of Thrones Season 8 at the moment. There's only three episodes left for the massively popular series and the network is going to need to promote everything they have coming up to fill the void. Luckily, The Righteous Gemstones looks like something comedy fans will enjoy and share with friends. You can check out the very first trailer below, thanks to the HBO YouTube channel.
