The first trailer for The Purge TV series has arrived. This makes for a good year if you're a fan of the franchise. Not only is the series set to debut its first season this fall, but The First Purge, the fourth movie in the series that will serve as a prequel to the events we've seen unfold so far in the trilogy of previously released horror flicks, is set to arrive in theaters July 4. Ahead of the movie's debut next week, the first trailer, as well as a premiere date for the series, has been revealed.

This teaser is a brisk 40-seconds in length but it is absolutely loaded down with imagery fans have come to expect from The Purge It kicks off with some narration that is incredibly befitting of the franchise with a woman saying, "We are just minutes away from the start of this glorious holiday. Tonight we celebrate because we made this country great. Let the fun begin!" Fun for the wealthy, not so much fun for the poor folks who can't afford to defend themselves on the annual holiday where all crime is legal for 12 hours.

The movies have pretty much served as a commentary on the growing class divide that exists in the U.S. today and it looks very much like that theme is going to be present in a big way on the small screen as well. The Purge TV series is set in an altered America ruled by a totalitarian political party. The series follows several seemingly unrelated characters living in a small city. As the clock winds down, each character is forced to reckon with their past as they discover how far they will go to survive the night. We previously reported that a cult that worships The Purge will be present in the series and that is being teased in this first trailer, which is quite possibly one of the most intriguing elements of the show that have been revealed so far.

James DeMonaco, creator of the franchise, serves as executive producer and creator of the series. Blumhouse, who produces the movies, is heading up production on the show as well. Michael Bay with Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing for Platinum Dunes. The ensemble cast includes Amanda Warren (The Leftovers), Gabriel Chavarria (East Los High), Jessica Garza (Six), Hannah Anderson (New Mutants), Colin Woodell (Unfriended: Dark Web), Lili Simmons (Ray Donovan), Fiona Dourif (Cult of Chucky) and Lee Tergesen (The Americans).

The Purge, which is being billed as an event series, will consist of a 10-episode first season. Emmy and Golden Globe award-winner Anthony Hemingway (American Crime Story) directs the first episode of the series, which will premiere Tuesday, September 4 on USA Network with, the premiere and finale episodes set to be simulcast on Syfy.
