The Punisher Season 2 trailer has arrived and it teases Billy Russo's transformation into Jigsaw. The new sneak peek pits Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle up against Ben Barnes' Russo as they bring viewers up to speed to precisely where their minds are at for the start of Season 2, and it's pretty dark. In addition to the trailer, Netflix confirmed the January 18th release date, which was previously revealed via tweet and then quickly deleted earlier this week.

Frank Castle seemingly put away his Punisher vest at the end of The Punisher Season 1 as he took a pardon for the crimes that he had committed. However, Season 2 will prove that he can run but he can't hide from who he's destined to be. Season 2 finds Frank in all too familiar territory. With Castle's former best friend Billy Russo slowly beginning to heal from the traumatic brain injury Frank inflicted on him, it's only a matter of time before Billy starts to put the pieces of the puzzle back together, though it looks like those pieces are scattered for the time being.

The Punisher Season 2 sees former marine-turned-vigilante Frank Castle living the quiet life on the road until he suddenly becomes involved in the attempted murder of a young girl (Giorgia Whigham). As he is drawn into the mystery surrounding her and those in pursuit of the information she holds, Castle attracts a new target on his back as new and old enemies force him to confront whether he should accept his destiny and embrace a life as The Punisher. Things are about to get even bloodier than the first season, which is pretty hard to imagine.

The Punisher Season 2 trailer finds Frank telling us (and Billy Russo) what he is here for as he says, "You need to let me be what I'm meant to be. I'm not the one who dies, I'm the one who does the killing." While Russo says, "It's like a bomb went off inside my mind, scattering all the pieces." In addition, the trailer shows off Russo's new "Jigsaw" mask, revealing that it has "everything I ever did wrong written all over it."

Billy Russo will not be called Jigsaw on the show, but his head is very much that character. The mask shows off a different look from the comic book source material, but one can tell that he is the same character as he struggles to put the pieces back together in his brain. With Russo on the heal and new villain John Pilgrim (Josh Stewart) set on taking down Frank Castle, The Punisher Season 2 is going to see Castle's world implode once more. The trailer doesn't show off very much, but it should get fans of Season 1 ready for Season 2. You can check out The Punisher Season 2 trailer below, thanks to the Netflix YouTube channel.
