The Mandalorian season 2 is going to have a lot more Moff Gideon. The hit Disney+ series is currently shooting its second season and Giancarlo Esposito has a lot more to do in it as Gideon. We last saw the character as he climbed out of the wreckage of his TIE Fighter with a curious weapon in his hands. The weapon is a Star Wars deep cut from Clone Wars and Rebels known as the Darksaber and it is probably going to play a big part in season 2.

Giancarlo Esposito was recently interviewed and was asked about The Mandalorian season 2. Specifically, he was asked if his Moff Gideon will have a larger role. "It's growing," Esposito said. "Yes, I do. I most certainly do." While this was expected, it's also great news for fans who have been waiting for an official confirmation. Jon Favreau and crew have been able to keep a tight lid on just about anything having to do with the hit series thus far.

Will Din Djarin get his hands on the Darksaber in The Mandalorian season 2? That seems to be in the thoughts of many Star Wars fans at the moment. Also in the thoughts of fans is just how great the series is, which is something that Giancarlo Esposito has picked up on too, especially as it relates to the original trilogy. He had this to say about taking on the role.

"It's been exciting to be a part of that project because of the iconic nature of it, but even more so, because it has returned me to the Star Wars that I loved. I saw the first few movies and dropped away because it became more and more in a different vein than what I wanted to be in, but this is the true space western. It gives you room and space and each one is a little bit of a film.

So you're able to tell a story visually and it returns to the original guts of mythology based deeply rooted in Joe Campbell's mythology which George Lucas was so fond of and which is why he was inclusive of that mythology in Star Wars so I'm pleased to be a part of that."

The Mandalorian has been able to capture the imagination of hardcore Star Wars fans, along with casual fans. Baby Yoda is here for nearly everybody, but he brings more than just cuteness to the hit series. He brings the mythical and magical Force to the show. Along with getting more Moff Gideon, we will also learn more about Baby Yoda, aka the Child}. Hopefully we'll figure out why everybody wants to get their hands on him so bad.

The Mandalorian season 2 will premiere sometime this fall. It would probably be a safe bet to expect the show to return in November. Whatever the case may be, there's a lot to look forward to as Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni continue to deliver the goods to Star Wars fans. The interview with Giancarlo Esposito, who probably isn't into the sequel trilogy, was originally conducted by Slash Film.
