Kevin Smith recently spoke about how excited he was to return to directing an episode of CW's The Flash and also revealed that he and Jason Mewes will guest star in the episode. The series is in the middle of its 4th Season and Smith directed the seventeenth episode of this run, titled Null and Annoyed. While the plot details aren't available yet, Smith says some fans will definitely accuse him of jumping the shark with this new episode, but he insists that it's great and fun.

While on his Fatman on Batman podcast, Kevin Smith revealed that in addition to directing the episode of The Flash, he and Jason Mewes make a cameo playing security guards. The director admits that he had been asked for the dynamic duo to cameo before and this time it just worked out perfectly. The security guard roll puts them on the opposite side of the law from their roles in Mallrats. Smith had this to say.

"I guess I can spoil it here. At one point, like you know, I did my first episode of Flash, and they asked Jason Mewes to be in the episode. He was up in Vancouver, so I was like He's always by my side, so he'll be there anyway, absolutely. So this time around, there's a scene that had two security guards in it, and so the writers of the episode, Kristen and Lauren, asked me specifically. We're wondering, do you and Jay want to play the security guards?"

While Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes instantly said yes to the cameo, Smith soon became apprehensive, but not for any obvious reasons. Instead, Smith reveals that he questioned it because he did not want to wear pants. The director is always in his trademark "jorts," which are just long shorts. He explains.

"And honestly, I did not want to do it, because I knew it required that I wear pants. Like, there's only so far in the world that I can take (my usual) outfit, and believe me, I've stretched it to its limit... But I knew if I was playing a part, where I wasn't being me, I had to be the security guard. I couldn't be the security guard in jorts. They probably would cut that. So I knew I'd have to wear an outfit and sh*t, which included pants. So I was like Oh f*ck, I don't wanna do it. But I knew if I said no, I'd never hear the end of it from (Jay). Cause he'd go, 'We had a chance to be on a f*cking Flash together, and you didn't f*cking take it! So I said Alright, we'll do it."

Kevin Smith admits that he was really excited to return to direct The Flash for the third time. However, he hadn't done an episode in over a year, so in typical Kevin Smith fashion, he began to question his abilities. It wasn't until he stepped onto the set that he reminded himself that directing is exactly what he knows how to do and even bragged that he was able to get the cast and crew out early a few times because of his efficiency. It's nice to see the director back to his old self after his heart attack.

CW's The Flash airs on Tuesday nights at 8 PM Pacific Time, but an official release date for Kevin Smith's Null and Annoyed episode does not have an official release date at this time. Smith will undoubtedly let us all know when the episode airs though. It will be cool to see Smith and Jason Mewes back together on the screen for the first time in a bit.
