The CW Network and producer Neal Baer are teaming up for a new TV series inspired by the pulp comic book The Avenger.
The comic debuted in 1939 in issues of Street & Smith Magazine, which followed Richard Benson, who seeks out revenge for the death of his daughter Alice and his wife. The series will alter the source material slightly, centering instead on Alice Benson, who discovers she has the power to alter her appearance after the death of her parents. She uses her new gifts, which come from genetic bio-hacking, to find out the truth about her parents' death and the origin of her abilities.
Warehouse 13's Deric A. Hughes and Benjamin Raab are writing the pilot script, with Neal Baer serving as executive producer alongside Conde Nast Entertainment's Dawn Ostroff. The writers will serve as co-executive producers. CBS TV Studios, where Neal Baer has a two-year overall deal, will also produce. It isn't known when shooting may begin.
Neal Baer is the executive producer and showrunner of CBS' Under the Dome, which returns for its second season next year.
