Fear not, action fans, as the John Wick TV series is still happening. We initially learned that Starz had ordered The Continental back in January 2018, which will explore the assassins hotel of the same name from the movies. Now, we finally have a little update on the status of the series, which will be a prequel and will likely contain at least a little bit of Keanu Reeves' titular killer.

The new info comes directly from Starz COO Jeffrey Hirsch, who recently spoke at the Television Critics Association press tour. Naturally, given the success of John Wick: Chapter 3: Parabellum, Hirsch was asked about The Continental. Here's what he had to say about it.

"'The Continental' will be way earlier in the history of the series. It will be a fresh look at The Continental as the hotel and how that came into the being of John Wick. It's way back in terms of the timing."

Regardless of the timeline, The Continental has always presented itself as something worth exploring. The idea of going back in the timeline and seeing how it came to be is certainly one way to chase that down. As for when we might see it air? Likely after John Wick 4, which has been set for May 2021.

"My sense is that where we are today, the movie date has been set but we're still in early development on the series so [it will air] most likely after."

That is a bit unfortunate, considering the show has already been kicking around, in some capacity, for nearly a year and a half. What we know beyond the timeline is that franchise director Chad Stahelski is on board as an executive producer, alongside series writer Derek Kolstad. Stahelski is also set to direct the pilot episode. Keanu Reeves has also been tapped to help develop the show behind the scenes and it's been previously teased that the actor will appear in some capacity. Jeffrey Hirsch, understandably, wasn't willing to say much about that at present.

"That's a really good question that I'm not going to answer. No answer is as good a tease you're going to get. It's a great franchise, we're excited about bringing that show to the network."

Depending on how far back they go in the timeline, it might not make sense to have the focus be on Keanu Reeves' character. But, from a marketing standpoint, it would help an awful lot to have him on screen in some capacity. To date, the three John Wick movies, which have all been embraced critically, have earned a combined $579 million at the global box office. It's also worth mentioning that each subsequent entry has earned more than its predecessor by a wide margin. We'll be sure to keep you posted as further details on the series are made available.
