It's official: The Boys are coming back for more. As revealed during the show's Comic-Con@home panel, the Amazon series has been renewed for season 3. This comes ahead of the show's season 2 premiere, which is scheduled for the fall. This signifies the amount of confidence that Amazon has in the series, which is based on The New York Times best-selling comic of the same name Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Showrunner and executive producer Eric Kripke had this to say.

"Amazon, in a bold and historic push to expand their 'weirdo' demographic, has greenlit Season 3 of The Boys! The writers and I are hard at work in the (virtual) writer's room and we're sad to say, the world has given us way too much material. We hope to be shooting in early 2021, but that's up to a microscopic virus. As if that wasn't enough, we're bringing you a Season 2 after show, Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys. Double entendre intended. Hosted by the incomparable Aisha Tyler and guest starring the cast and crew, it's a deep dive into how we make this insane thing. Seriously, thanks to Sony, Amazon and the fans. We love making this show so much, and we're thrilled we get to make more."

Towards the end of The Boys Comic-Con@Home panel, producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg popped in to make the surprise reveal that The Boys season 3 is happening. San Diego Comic-Con has a long history of breaking news and big announcements. Even though it is virtual this year, Amazon is trying to keep that alive. For the moment, few specific details have been revealed, but with season 2 yet to debut, revealing much of anything would surely be venturing into spoiler territory. Rogen had this to say about it.

"Because this show has fans and it is watched by people like you, they have decided to renew it, yet again, for a third season. So, if you like The Boys, you got more of it. Thank God! It's very exciting.?"

The panel included producer Eric Kripke along with series stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capon, Karen Fukuhara, and Aya Cash. It was moderated by Aisha Tyler. In addition to the season 3 announcement, it was revealed that a new aftershow will be debuting alongside season 2. Titled Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys, it will offer exclusive insights into each Amazon Prime episode. Tyler has been set as the host, who had this to say.

"The Boys is one of the smartest, most irreverent, unapologetically badass shows streaming. I became a fan during Season 1 and this season I'm stoked to be flying fans into the heart of the show as host of Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys. Season 2 is bigger, badder, and more audacious than ever before, so join me after every episode as we dig through the rubble pile of our feelings. I promise, we'll get through it like The Boys, dysfunctional, but together."

The Boys is an irreverent and violent take on what happens when superheroes, who are as popular as celebrities, abuse their superpowers, as opposed to using them for good. Season 2, which is said to be more intense and more insane, picks up with the gang on the run from the law, hunted by the Supes, and desperately trying to regroup and fight back against Vought. Vernon Sanders, Co-Head of Television, Amazon Studios, had this to say.

"Eric Kripke and the incredible cast of The Boys continue to deliver a wild and action-packed series full of surprises and can't-miss moments that have made the series a global hit. We couldn't be more excited to see where Eric takes The Boys and The Supes in Season 3, and to have Aisha Tyler join The Boys family as the host of Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys."

A clip was also revealed during the panel, which previewed a pretty impressive and messed up scene coming our way. The Boys season 2 is set to debut on September 4, with the first three episodes dropping that day. The show is shifting to a weekly schedule, with new episodes arriving each Friday until the season finale, which is scheduled for October 9. Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys, executive produced by Michael Davies, Aisha Tyler, Julia Cassidy, Eden Sutley and Jennifer Ryan, will debut on August 28 with a look back at season one and continues on September 4 to dive into each episode of Season 2 as it rolls out through the October 9 season finale. We'll be sure to keep you posted as any further details are made available. The Boys airs exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
