The first season of Amazon Prime's The Boys took upon itself to answer one of the great questions of the comic book world: What if the Justice League were a bunch of psychopathic jerks? The upcoming season 2 of the series will continue to grapple with the question, as evidenced by a recently released poster for the show on Twitter which depicts the 'superhero' Homelander urinating on the city from a high vantage point, with the following message.
Homelander is the leader of the superhero team known as The Seven, and is a pastiche of both Superman and Captain America. Instead of being a tireless fighter for truth, justice, and the American way, Homelander is a cruel narcissist with delusions of grandeur, who willingly intimidates, kills, and tortures while sporting a charming smile.
In case the idea of Homelander peeing on the city seems too extreme, the poster is actually a tamer version of another public act of super-indecency that the character was supposed to indulge in during the first season. In a past interview, creator of the show Eric Kripke had revealed one particular scene which was ultimately removed because the producers feared it took things too far. In the scene, Homelander homes off in a rage after an argument with corporate stooge Madelyn Stilwell.
"After being dressed down by Stilwell... [Homelander] was standing on one of the Chrysler building Eagles. He pulled his pants down and started ***ing *ff, mumbling 'I can do whatever I want' over and over again until he cl***xed all over New York City."
So it seems Homelander is a guy who just really, really likes to use his bodily fluids to establish his dominion. And it says much about the twisted nature of the show that this particular predilection doesn't even crack the top ten of the character's most disturbing traits.
The The Boys Season 2 tralier shows the world of Homelander and the rest of The Seven turned upside down by the arrival of a new hero in the form of Stormfront, played by Aya Cash. Stormfront is based on a character with the same name from the comic series the show is adapted from. In the comics, Stormfront was a Thor-like neo-nazi who led a rival superhero faction called Payback. The show has majorly tweaked the character, turning Stormfront into an empowered woman who joins the Seven and is set up as a sympathetic rival to Homelander.
The Boys season 2 premieres Friday, September 4 on Amazon Prime. The official synopsis for the series is provided below:
"The even more intense, more insane season two finds The Boys on the run from the law, hunted by the Supes, and desperately trying to regroup and fight back against Vought. In hiding, Hughie (Jack Quaid), Mother's Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capon) and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) try to adjust to a new normal, with Butcher (Karl Urban) nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, Starlight (Erin Moriarty) must navigate her place in The Seven as Homelander (Antony Starr) sets his sights on taking complete control. His power is threatened with the addition of Stormfront (Aya Cash), a social media-savvy new Supe, who has an agenda of her own. On top of that, the Supervillain threat takes center stage and makes waves as Vought seeks to capitalize on the nation's paranoia."
This latest look at The Boys 2 arrived direct from Amazon Prime's official twitter for the hit series, which will return very soon.
