The Supernatural Season 13 footage has just been released at San Diego Comic-Con and it's pretty interesting to say the least. Not quite as interesting as the way the panel was introduced...But more on that in a second. And after the events of the Season 12 finale, that's saying quite a bit. SPOILER alert! The finale saw Crowley sacrificing himself, Lucifer killed Castiel, the Nephilim was born, and Mary was trapped in another world with the devil himself. Whew...That's a lot of stuff going on for the Winchesters. But it doesn't stop there because Season 13 picks right where Season 12 left off.

Supernatural's annual Comic-Con panel in Hall H started with a custom video recorded by stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles as their characters, Sam and Dean Winchester. The humorous tribute to Supernatural fans was immediately followed by a surprise live performance of "Carry on Wayward Son" by Kansas, accompanied by a 12-season video retrospective of the hit show projected on giant, high-resolution screens surrounding the perimeter of the massive hall, which arrived on The CW YouTube after the panel. Once the band finished their iconic song, panel moderators (and recurring fan-favorite Supernatural guest stars) Rob Benedict and Richard Speight Jr. took the stage to introduce series stars Ackles, Padalecki and Misha Collins, along with executive producers Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb.

First used by Supernatural in the opening montage of the season one finale in 2006, "Carry On Wayward Son" has since been used in every season finale episode that depicts "The Road So Far" (i.e. the Winchesters' wayward journey). The song was also used as the centerpiece of the series' 200th episode (in which an all-girls high school performs "Supernatural: The Musical!").

Next up was a sizzle reel set to the soundtrack of Metallica's mellow rock song "Nothing Else Matters." Many fans expected that we'd see some footage of the Scooby-Doo episode that was announced a few months back at the CW upfront presentation in New York. The animated Scooby-Doo episode will be the 16th episode of the season, but sooner might have benefited the Winchesters in their current situation. Keep in mind that Supernatural creator Eric Kripke has been quoted as saying that "It's not jumping the shark if you never land." With a quote like that you're either on board or you're not, but thankfully for Supernatural, the fans are excited and ready to make the jump with season 13.

This is by far the most "shark jumping" that Sam and Dean have attempted even after the monster musical and an episode seen through the point of view of an automobile. This might even top the time that Sam and Dean became their real-life alter egos Jared and Jensen, aka the Double Js. Speaking of that "shark jump", the angel Castiel though dead, will be returning, but just a little slow at doing so and maybe just parts of him. Castiel definitely makes a return in the Scooby-Doo crossover episode, so keep an eye out... Crowley however, will sadly not be returning to the cult favorite series.

The 13th season of Supernatural was confirmed in January of 2017, which was the first time that the series has ever been renewed early by the CW and instead of the usual 184 days of shooting, there's only 179 this time around thanks to the Scooby-Doo crossover episode. Shooting for season 13 just started back at the end of June and will go all the way through to April of 2018, though writing started back in May of this year. Though the show started out and continues to get mixed reviews, it has gained a substantial cult following and that following is hungry for season 13.

Thankfully, it's almost time for Supernatural Season 13 to begin. The new season is set to premiere on Thursday, October 12th, 2017, in its new time period at 8 PM on the CW network. But for those impatient fans, we've got a brand sizzle reel for that will get you prepared for season 13 that you can watch below. And good luck getting "Carry on Wayward Son" and "Nothing Else Matters" out of your head for the rest of your day. Check out the sizzle reel below and Kansas performing live below.
