We're finally about to see the return of John Winchester in Supernatural, something fans have waited years to see. Jeffrey Dean Morgan has a storied history with the popular CW show, starring as Sam and Dean's dad. He appeared in the entire first season of the show, way back in 2005, before sacrificing himself in season 2 to save Dean's life. He had a voice cameo in Season 3, but fans haven't seen John Winchester since. Now, he will return for the 300th episode.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan is an actor that I'm pretty sure every human being on the planet loves. You might know him as the red scarf wearing, barbed wire baseball bat sporting supervillain, Negan from AMC's The Walking Dead. Or as the super-charming superhero The Comedian from director Zack Snyder's adaptation of Alan Moore's classic graphic novel Watchmen - or hell, maybe you will always know the man for his turn as someone named Denny in Grey's Anatomy. But however it is that you know Morgan, I'm willing to bet more than a few pennies that you're a fan. And for good reason too! JDM is one of the top actors out there today.
And speaking of the man that would be Negan, a few weeks back, Jeffrey Dean Morgan took to Twitter to answer fan questions about this and that role. And someone eventually asked him if he would entertain the idea of returning to the world of The CW's hit series Supernatural co-starring Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. And to that question, Morgan set fan's mouths to watering by simply answering: "Sure. If the story was right."
Nice! And wouldn't you know it, that story seemed to have gained enough traction online that I guess the powers that be behind the scenes of the hit CW series hit Morgan up, and today we have official word that, yes, Morgan will be returning to the series as John Winchester in the near future!
Co-showrunner Andrew Dabb said in a statement:
"We're incredibly excited to have Jeffrey back for this milestone episode, and think fans will love what we have planned for his character... and a few other surprise guest stars."
The "milestone" episode that Dabb mentions above is the upcoming 300th (yes, you read that right), 300th episode, titled "Lebanon," which is currently in production in Vancouver. As you can imagine, with the level of secrecy that naturally comes along with this Supernatural series, not much is known about just what the hell will go down when the Winchester brothers finally come face-to-face with their dear old (dead) dad again. But I guess we'll all find out sooner than later as the 300th episode is already all set to hit The CW come Thursday, February 7 at 8 p.m. ET.
Last season the Winchester boys entered the animated world of Scooby-Doo for a killer crossover. I recently caught that episode, and it was a delight. That said, I missed the thirteenth season's Wayward Sisters spin-off/backdoor pilot episode starring Kim Rhodes as Sheriff Jody Mills, Briana Buckmaster as Sheriff Donna Hanscum, Kathryn Newton as Claire Novak, Katherine Ramdeen as Alex Jones, Clark Backo as Patience Turner, and Yadira Guevara-Prip as Kaia Nieves. But in the end that was all good as the spin-off was ultimately not chosen to move forward as a series.
But I'll be there for the Jeffrey Dean Morgan-starring 300th episode, you can bet. Entertainment Weekly dropped this news earlier this week.
