The CW has released the first full-length trailer for Superman & Lois. The upcoming series is all set to premiere next month with a 90-minute debut episode. Specifically, Tuesday, February 23rd is when DC fans will get to see the highly anticipated new show, which will also include a special, Superman & Lois: Legacy of Hope, directly following the episode. The Flash premiere has been moved to Tuesday, March 2nd.
The first full-length footage from Superman & Lois focuses on a seemingly ordinary life for the iconic comic book characters. With that being said, something dark is clearly lurking underneath the facade, which will be investigated further down the line at some point. For now, fans will have to wait and see what the new Man of Steel will have to deal with this time around. There are just some brief teases in the footage, which will more than likely get some DC fans hooked into watching the premiere episode next month.
Superman & Lois takes place years after facing megalomaniacal supervillains, monsters, and alien invaders, who were intent on wiping out the human race. Now, the world's most famous superhero, The Man of Steel, aka Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch), come face-to-face with one of their greatest challenges ever - dealing with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today's society. Complicating the already daunting job of raising two boys, Clark and Lois must also concern themselves with whether or not their sons Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) and Jordan (Alexander Garfin) could inherit their father's Kryptonian superpowers as they grow older.
Returning to Smallville to handle some Kent family business, Clark and Lois are reacquainted with Lana Lang (Emmanuelle Chriqui), a local loan officer who also happens to be Clark's first love, and her Fire Chief husband Kyle Cushing (Erik Valdez). The adults aren't the only ones rediscovering old friendships in Smallville as the Kent sons are reacquainted with Lana and Kyle's rebellious daughter, Sarah (Inde Navarrette). There's never a dull moment in the life of a superhero, especially with Lois' father, General Samuel Lane (Dylan Walsh) looking for Superman to vanquish a villain or save the day at a moment's notice. Meanwhile, Superman & Lois' return to idyllic Smallville is set to be upended when a mysterious stranger (Wolé Parks) enters their lives.
Showrunner/executive producer Todd Helbing says he wanted to do something different with the characters in Superman & Lois. For Helbing, a change of scenery became one of his core focuses. "The story of Superman has taken place in Metropolis for very long, obviously there was a Smallville series." However, the showrunner comes from a small town in the Midwest, and he wanted that to be a focal point. "So, we wanted to tell a story where you have the parents after this tragic event happens move back to Smallville and find that it's easier to raise kids maybe in a place where life isn't so hectic as it is in Metropolis."
