It's official: Superman & Lois is just getting started. The CW has announced that the DC Comics series has been renewed for season 2. This early renewal comes hardly a week after the series premiere, which was met with a warm response from critics and fans, in addition to being a hit in the ratings department. As such, the network wasted zero time in getting a sophomore season on the books.

Superman & Lois stars Tyler Hoechlin as Superman and Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane. The two had previously been part of the network's ArrowVerse. However, they had never had the chance to headline a show. At the very least, they are going to get a couple of seasons to showcase what they can do. The premiere drew 1.7 million live viewers, the biggest Tuesday night for the network since 2019. CW chairman Mark Pedowitz had this to say in a statement.

"The phenomenal multiplatform debut of 'Superman & Lois,' which delivered for us in a big way on both a linear and streaming basis, is a testament to the creativity, hard work and dedication of the talented people who worked tirelessly in front of and behind the camera, especially in this challenging environment. We are thrilled to now have two brand-new bonafide hits in 'Superman & Lois' and 'Walker,' both of which have been renewed for next season along with 11 other of our shows, further positioning us for continued strength and stability for next season."

The series centers on Clark Kent and Lois Lane as they tackle parenting in Smallville. After years of facing danger in Metropolis, among other places, the world's most famous superhero, and the most famous journalist in the DC universe, come face to face with the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in the modern world. Complicating the already daunting job of raising two boys, Clark and Lois must also concern themselves with whether or not their sons Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) and Jordan (Alexander Garfin) will inherit their father's superpowers.

The cast also includes Jordan Elsass as Jonathan Kent, Alexander Garfin as Jordan Kent, Erik Valdez as Kyle Cushing, Inde Navarrette as Sarah Cushing, Wole Parks as The Stranger, Adam Rayner as Morgan Edge, Dylan Walsh as General Samuel Lane and Emmanuelle Chriqui as Lana Lang Cushing. ArrowVerse architect Greg Berlanti and Todd Helbing developed the series. They also serve as executive producers along with Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns. Todd Helbing wrote the screenplay for the first episode, which Lee Toland Krieger directed.

DC continues to be a big part of The CW. The Flash, Supergirl, Batwoman, Black Lightning, Stargirl and Legends of Tomorrow are all still in the rotation as well. But Arrow concluded its run last year, with Supergirl and Black Lightning heading into their final seasons. This renewal will at least help to keep them in the DC business for a little while longer. Superman & Lois airs Tuesdays. You can check out the official announcement from the Superman & Lois Twitter account.
