The first trailer for Supergirl season 5 has arrived. Melissa Benoist and other members of the cast, as well as producer Robert Rovner, were on hand at San Diego Comic-Con to discuss some of the secrets of season 5, and to unveil the first footage. Luckily, the trailer was also made available online for fans who couldn't actually be there for the panel. And it gives us a great look at Kara's brand new super suit.

The Comic-Con trailer kicks off with Kara making a heroic entrance in front of the White House. The footage leans heavy into this season's theme, which will center around our addiction to technology, with people looking like actual hypnotized zombies. Things then explode into a montage of epic action. The trailer concludes with a thorough look at the new Supergirl costume for season 5, which is ditching the skirt in favor of pants. Robert Rovner spoke a bit about this season, which will revolve around technology.

"This season will be about how technology impacts us, and how people use it to escape from what happens in their lives. We've seeing how our villains use technology against us, and our heroes try to bring us back."

This season will feature the introduction of new characters such as Andrea Rojas aka Acrata ( Julie Gonzalo) and reporter William Dey (Staz Nair). It was also confirmed at the panel that Lex Luther will be returning in season 5. Jon Cryer, who debuted the character last season, came out as the surprise moderator at SDCC.

Another big thing in season 5 will be the departure of Jimmy Olson. Mehcad Brooks has played the character since the very beginning of the series, but he confirmed at the panel that he'll be leaving at about the halfway point this season. Here's what Brooks had to say about it.

"I've been here since Day 1, and I can honestly say I've never done a series where this many people get along this well for this long. It's really a lot tougher than I thought it would be because I love these people, they're my family. I didn't grow up able to see a superhero who looked like me, at all. The fact they took a chance on someone who doesn't look like Jimmy Olsen, and made me him and then a superhero... and we dealt with racism and put it into the context of bullying. This has been the most important job of my life so far."

Melissa Benoist will also be teaming up with her ArrowVerse counterparts in this year's crossover event, Crisis On Infinite Earths, which will include all five shows, with Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman also getting in on the action. Supergirl season 5 is set to debut on October 6 on The CW. Be sure to check out the new trailer from the Warner Bros. TV YouTube channel for yourself.
