Just one week after new photos surfaced of Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) and Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) together, The CW has released a new trailer showing these heroes finally teaming up. This footage shows that Superman and Supergirl will join forces when communications are lost with a space craft that is seen plummeting towards Earth. While Superman was mentioned and referenced numerous times in the first season on CBS, this new season on The CW will finally bring these Kryptonian cousins together.

In Season One, Supergirl soared fighting crime and battling various villains, chief among them two Kryptonians who were intent on destroying earth, but she has yet to find that same empowerment as Kara Danvers. In The CW's Supergirl Season Two, Kara has left the safety of being Cat Grant's assistant in order to figure out what she really wants to do, while as Supergirl she continues to work at the DEO, protecting the citizens of National City and searching for Jeremiah and Cadmus. Along the way, she will team up with Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) to battle new villains, as she strives to balance her personal life with her life as a superhero.

Supergirl will be introducing a number of new characters this season, including Lynda Carter, the original Wonder Woman, as the President of the United States. Floriana Lima has also signed on to play Maggie Sawyer, the first ever openly gay comic book character, along with Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor. The CW Network show is also introducing Maggie Sawyer's girlfriend Kate Kane (Batwoman), and Barbara Gordon (Oracle), although they haven't been cast yet.

Last month, executive producer Greg Berlanti confirmed there will be a musical crossover between both Supergirl and The Flash this season, following both shows' crossover on CBS last season. Both Melissa Benoist and Grant Gustin have musical backgrounds, with both landing roles on Fox's Glee before landing their DC Comics superhero roles. The producer confirmed that most of the songs will be covers, but there may be a few original songs thrown in as well.

This trailer will hopefully be followed by much more footage of these heroes played by Melissa Benoist and Tyler Hoechlin, as we get closer and closer to the Season 2 premiere on Monday, October 10. Supergirl is also expected to be part of The CW's other massive crossover event with all four shows, although it hasn't been confirmed when that will air quite yet.
