The matchup for Super Bowl 54 has been set. The NFL's biggest game of the year will be between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Two of the game's most exciting young quarterbacks, Jimmy Garoppolo and Patrick Mahomes, will be going head-to-head in what is poised to be a possible look at the future for both the AFC and the NFC.

Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs played against the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Championship Game. The Titans, under quarterback Ryan Tannehill, were having something of a magical run. After sneaking into the playoffs, they knocked off Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in a stunning upset, before advancing to take out the Baltimore Ravens, who entered as the number one seed in the AFC. But the magic ran out as coach Andy Reid led the Chiefs to a 35-24 victory. For the Chiefs, it was another come from behind win. Though not quite as stunning as the one pulled on the Houston Texans the week prior.

Over in the NFC, it was the 49ers, led by Garoppolo, against Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. The 49ers went into the playoffs as the number one overall seed in the NFC, but both teams boasted a 13 and 3 record in the regular season. Unfortunately for the Packers, this proved to be a repeat of when these two NFL teams met in November. The Packers got down early and had to try and overcome a 27 point deficit. Despite Rodgers giving it his best shot, the 49ers won 37-20. This, even though Garaoppolo only threw eight passes in the game. But coach Kyle Shanahan rode running back Raheem Mostert to a historic win. Shanahan had this to say after the game.

"Yeah, it was the explosives we kept getting. Last week, it was a little different, it was more of a grind. We knew there'd be some hard ones, but then we start getting those big runs. I mean, we thought we had as just a good of a chance of an explosive run as a pass. So once you see that, it makes it pretty easy to call plays."

Patrick Mahomes, on the other side, one of the most dynamic players in the game, threw for 294 yards and three touchdowns. This will be the first time the Chiefs have been to the Super Bowl in 50 years. It marks the second time coach Andy Reid has taken a team to the big game, having previously gone with the Philadelphia Eagles. Reid spoke highly of Mahomes after the NFL football game.

"We all believe in him. It's not just me, it's everybody. We're lucky to have some guys that build a lot of confidence within you and from a coaching standpoint, on both sides of the ball. Pat's a leader of the team and everybody knows that. They all respect him for it. He knows how to handle it and that's why we're here."

The 49ers last won the Super Bowl in 1994. They also went in 2012, but lost to the Ravens. Super Bowl 54 will take place in Miami, Florida on Sunday, February 2. Fox is set to broadcast the game, but it will also be available to stream via fuboTV. This news comes to us via NFL.com.
